This transparent 1.88 carat emerald cut pinkish purple sapphire presents measured proportions and refined finishing that affirm its gemological quality. The stone measures 7.66 millimeters by 6.20 millimeters by 3.97 millimeters, and is cut in an emerald cut faceted style that emphasizes clarity and linear brilliance. The color falls into a medium intensity range, exhibiting a balanced pinkish purple tone that reads consistently under standard viewing conditions. Clarity is graded as eye clean, evaluated at eye level, and the surface shows an excellent polish that enhances both transparency and light return. Origin is Ceylon, Sri Lanka, and there has been no enhancement performed on this material, preserving the natural state of the corundum.
This sapphire began its journey millions of years ago deep within the crust, in a tectonically active region where heat, pressure, and chemistry combined to create gem quality corundum. Aluminum rich sediments and metaigneous protoliths were subjected to regional and contact metamorphism, mobilizing constituents and concentrating aluminum while trace elements such as chromium and traces of iron and manganese became incorporated into the crystal lattice. Under sustained high temperature and elevated pressure, hexagonal corundum crystals nucleated and slowly grew, allowing impurities to distribute in a manner that produced the distinctive pinkish purple hue. Over geological time, uplift and erosion liberated these crystals from their host rocks, and secondary processes such as weathering and alluvial transport further sorted and rounded the material before it was recovered in Sri Lankan deposits.
Cutting and finishing were executed to respect the stone's natural attributes, with the emerald cut chosen to showcase transparency and to present color evenly across the table. The faceted pavilion and step facets provide a controlled interplay of light and depth, supporting the medium color intensity without overwhelming the eye. At The Natural Sapphire Company we document origin, clarity, color, weight, and the absence of enhancement for each gem, and present this sapphire with those attributes intact. The result is a naturally formed, precisely cut example of Ceylon corundum that conveys geological history alongside practical gemological specification.
