Product description

This transparent 1.11 carat cushion shape reddish pink sapphire measures 6.44 by 5.08 by 3.56 mm, and presents a well balanced profile that combines a comfortable table size with depth sufficient to maximize internal reflection. The gem is fashioned with a mixed brilliant cut, which integrates a brilliant facet configuration on the pavilion with step or modified facets on the crown, allowing for both scintillation and broad flash. The color is described as vivid, offering strong saturation and medium to slightly darker tone, while the clarity grade is included, evaluated at eye level, indicating the presence of internal characteristics that are visible without magnification but do not obscure the gem. The polish on this stone is excellent, providing a smooth facet interface that minimizes surface light loss, and the sapphire is unenhanced, reflecting its natural state from its Tanzanian source.

Corundum, the mineral species to which sapphire belongs, crystallizes in a trigonal system, and the intrinsic arrangement of aluminum and oxygen atoms produces optical properties that underpin its notable sparkle. The refractive index of corundum typically falls in the range of 1.762 to 1.770, and this relatively high refractive index causes light to slow and bend significantly as it enters the stone, increasing the degree of internal reflection that can be returned to the eye. Birefringence in corundum is modest, approximately 0.008, and while this is not high compared to some gem species, it contributes to subtle doubling effects at facet junctions that can enhance the perception of depth. Dispersion in sapphire is low compared to diamond, yet when combined with high refractive index and precise facet geometry, it supports vivid flashes of color and white light. Those fundamental optical parameters, taken together with the stability of corundum at a Mohs hardness of nine and a specific gravity near 4.00, establish a structural baseline for durable brilliance and significant light return over time.

The mixed brilliant cut of this cushion shape sapphire plays a central role in translating those structural properties into a visual experience. The pavilion facets, executed with proportions tuned to the stone's dimensions, encourage multiple internal bounces before light exits through the crown, producing concentrated points of scintillation that move with the gem and the observer. Crown facets that are proportioned to the table size allow broad flashes of color, so the vivid reddish pink tone appears both saturated and lively, without the stone appearing heavy or dead. Excellent polish ensures that each facet boundary acts as an efficient mirror, reducing scatter at the surface and enhancing contrast between bright and dark facets, which is essential for perceived sparkle. The clarity grade of included, evaluated at eye level, means that certain internal features are present, and these features can influence light behavior. In many corundum specimens, inclusions act as additional surfaces for scattering, sometimes softening highlights, and sometimes producing secondary scintillation as light interacts with internal planes. In this sapphire the inclusions do not diminish its ability to return light strongly, due to thoughtful cutting and the stone s transparent nature, so the balance between internal character and optical performance remains favorable.

The provenance from Tanzania contributes geologic context without altering the optical fundamentals that produce brilliance, and the absence of enhancement confirms that the visual attributes are native to the crystal. From a practical standpoint, the combination of 1.11 carat weight, measured proportions, mixed brilliant pavilion, vivid color intensity, and excellent polish make this sapphire suitable for a range of settings that require both durability and optical presence. When seated in a well designed mounting that complements the pavilion and allows adequate light entry, the stone will exhibit dynamic scintillation and broad luminous flashes derived from its corundum structure and cutting. The Natural Sapphire Company provides this report level information to support informed decisions, and the description reflects observed characteristics published with the intention of clarity and precision.
