Product description

From the simmering heat deep within the gem rich hills of Ceylon, this sapphire began its long journey as a sliver of mineral rich in aluminum and trace elements that would someday sing in shades of pink and purple, mined by hands that have read the land for generations, brought to light with respect for local communities and for the stone itself. The Natural Sapphire Company has followed this particular parcel from rough to reveal, selecting a crystal that would respond beautifully to careful cutting, and guiding its shaping into a 1.06 carat pear shape that measures 7.77 x 4.60 x 3.75 mm. This sapphire is transparent, unheated, and shows intense color intensity with a clarity grade of slightly included when evaluated at eye level, a character that speaks of its natural history rather than concealment. No enhancement was applied to alter its hue or clarity, and the polish is excellent, a final signature of the cutter who coaxed the best from the stone without forcing it into a shape or color that did not already live inside. Holding this sapphire is to hold a small chapter of Ceylon in the palm, a living fragment of geology and craft that arrived at our bench ready to be celebrated.

The mixed brilliant cut chosen for this pear shape bridges two worlds of light, combining the scintillating facet pattern of a brilliant cut on the crown with carefully proportioned facets on the lower half that return light with both fire and depth, the result being a jewel that flashes with lively brilliance while also showing saturated color in broad, velvety flashes. In this shape and size, the cutter favored a balance between a lively crown that disperses white light into sparkling pinpoints, and a pavilion arrangement that channels light back through the gem to emphasize the pinkish purple heart of the sapphire. The pear silhouette adds a directional quality to the way light travels through the stone, pulling the eye along a graceful line that elongates worn fingers and gives movement to every gesture. Slightly included clarity is not a detriment, in this case it is part of the stone story, inclusions that sit quietly within the crystal lattice and that may even act as tiny signals to catch and scatter light, adding to the gem personality rather than detracting from its beauty. Excellent polish ensures that every facet face is a mirror, free of abrasions, so that light that enters returns cleanly to the viewer, creating crisp flashes and a lively play between brilliance and the deep saturated color that marks Ceylon origin.

There is a cultural and aesthetic lineage to this pinkish purple sapphire that goes beyond its measurements and grade, a lineage that The Natural Sapphire Company honors in the way this stone is presented and recommended to clients. Ceylon sapphires have long been prized for their velvety tones and luminous saturation, gems that appear to hold light within their depths, and an unheated specimen with intense color is rare and meaningful to collectors and to someone seeking a truly natural center stone. Set as a teardrop pendant, the pear shape will sway and catch light with every step, exposing the mixed brilliant cut to changing angles and revealing flashes of pink and purple. Mounted in a ring with the point facing the fingertip, the gem will create an elongating effect, and the facet structure will reward close inspection with lively scintillation, making daily wear an experience rather than a static display. Because the stone is natural and unenhanced, it carries provenance and permanence, a jewel that will age with grace while retaining the story of its origin.

If you are drawn to a sapphire that tells a story, that came from the classic gem fields of Sri Lanka and that has been brought to life by considered cutting and exacting polish, this 1.06 carat pear shape pinkish purple sapphire awaits your imagination, and our team at The Natural Sapphire Company is ready to advise on settings that will showcase its intense color and mixed brilliant cut. We can recommend metal choices and mounting styles that protect the point and enhance the play of light, and we can provide imagery and video to show how the gem behaves in different lights, because the true measure of this stone is best seen in motion, held up to the day and evening, and set into a piece that will carry its Ceylon story forward for years to come.
