Formed deep within the Precambrian and Mesozoic terranes of Africa over millions of years, this pink sapphire is a product of protracted geological processes that concentrated aluminum rich metamorphic rocks and magmatic fluids, producing crystalline corundum. Under intense heat and directed pressure, aluminum oxide crystallized into a dense hexagonal lattice, while trace chromium and variable amounts of iron and titanium partitioned into defined lattice sites, imparting the soft pink hue observed today. Episodic metamorphism and later alluvial transport polished the rough crystal faces, and the subsequent heat events at geologic time scales annealed internal strain, refining clarity and reducing the visual impact of mineral inclusions. This natural history yields a transparent sapphire with stable color zoning and subtle pleochroism, a testament to the slow, complex interplay of chemistry and tectonics that occurred in its African source region.
Cut and finish reflect precise lapidary technique, The Natural Sapphire Company presents this one point zero zero carat pear shaped pink sapphire, dimensions 1.00 x 1.00 x 1.00 mm, executed in a mixed brilliant cut to balance scintillation and depth of color. The mixed brilliant treatment employs a faceted crown of small kite and star facets to maximize return of light, paired with a pavilion configuration that blends brilliant style facets for fire with calibrated angles matched to corundum refractive indexes near 1.76 to 1.77, and a birefringence around 0.008 to 0.010. Clarity is graded very slightly included at eye level, indicating only minor, well distributed inclusions that do not detract from transparency, and the medium light color intensity offers delicate pink saturation that performs exceptionally under direct and diffused lighting. The stone is heat treated, a stable and controlled enhancement that improves color uniformity and minimizes silk without compromising structural integrity. Meticulous cutting delivered excellent polish, crisp facet junctions, and even symmetry, making this sapphire ideal for fine custom settings where precise optical performance and natural provenance are paramount.
