Intense heat and steady pressure transformed aluminum rich rocks into corundum crystals, and the quiet presence of trace elements such as chromium and iron painted a rare wash of pink and violet into the growing crystal lattice. Over epochs of mountain building and erosion the crystal endured, its clarity developing as tiny inclusions marked the passage of geological time.
