Product description

This pinkish purple sapphire began its story deep within the ancient metamorphic rocks of Ceylon, known to the world as Sri Lanka, where heat and pressure over millions of years coaxed aluminum oxide into crystalline life, and trace elements like chromium painted the gem with warm pink and violet notes. Local miners working time honored alluvial beds and rock trenches felt the familiar thrill when a translucent piece of rough revealed itself, a hesitant flash of color as daylight played across its surface. That moment of discovery is part instinct and part intuition, passed from generation to generation, and this particular crystal showed promise right away, a transparency and a glow that suggested it would polish to something rare and memorable. From the riverbeds to the local sorting table, it was examined, cleaned, and gently passed to trusted hands who understood that a Ceylon sapphire is more than a material, it is a piece of earth with a voice, and its clear, intense color was a story that needed careful listening.

The craft of turning that promising rough into the finished heart of a jewel is where human skill meets natural wonder, and this gem was entrusted to cutters who respect both. They opted for an oval shape with a mixed brilliant faceting style, a choice that honors the stone, while revealing its inner fire. The cutter worked to exact proportions so the finished gem weighs 0.40 carat, and measures 4.69 by 3.73 by 2.69 millimeters, with every facet placed to dance with light. Evaluated at eye level it shows a clarity described as very very slightly included, which means the stone reads as clean to the unaided eye, while the tiny internal features testify to its natural origin. The color intensity is intense, a vivid pinkish purple that holds its tone even as it throws off brighter flashes on the facet junctions, and the polish is excellent, each table and girdle reflecting a mirror finish that amplifies the stone’s depth. Importantly for collectors who value authenticity, this sapphire has not undergone enhancement, it is untreated and true to its Ceylon origin, a purity that matters to connoisseurs and to anyone who appreciates an unaltered natural gem.

When The Natural Sapphire Company brought this stone from the cutters bench to the market, the aim was to preserve the narrative of its journey, so that the person who wears it can feel connected to place and process as much as to beauty. The oval mixed brilliant cut makes it versatile in design, equally suited to a delicate solitaire ring that lets the gem speak for itself, as it is to a halo or three stone setting where its intense hue can be contrasted with warm metals or accent diamonds. On the hand it sits with quiet confidence, small in size but commanding attention because of its color saturation and lively faceting, a companion for both everyday grace and special moments. Our gemologists can provide full documentation of its measurements, weight, clarity assessment, polish, and origin, and we are proud to stand behind its untreated status and the ethical sourcing that the stone represents. If you imagine this sapphire set into a ring, pendant, or bespoke piece, our team at The Natural Sapphire Company will guide you through options for mounting and design, ensuring the setting enhances, rather than competes with, the gem’s natural charm, and that the finished piece carries forward the same sense of story that began at the riverbeds of Sri Lanka.
