Product description

From the moment these sapphires first formed deep within the layered rocks of Ceylon, now Sri Lanka, they began a quiet journey that would one day find its way to The Natural Sapphire Company, where each stone is treated with respect for its origin and character. In the riverbeds and alluvial gravels of historic gem districts, rough crystals are revealed by seasons of rain and the patient hands of local miners, each parcel carrying the imprint of the land that made it. These two oval pink sapphires, one weighing 0.87 carats and the other 0.98 carats, were selected for their transparent clarity and an intense pink color that speaks of the particular mineral chemistry native to Sri Lankan deposits. Heat treatment, a traditional and stable enhancement, was employed to gently awaken and even the hue, bringing forward the vibrant tone that collectors and designers prize. Because these gems began as part of a geological story that spans millions of years, each facet cut and every careful inspection by our gem specialists is guided by an appreciation for that natural history, ensuring the final jewels retain both their authenticity and their soul.

Measured at 7.56 by 5.44 by 2.67 millimeters for the 0.87 carat stone, and 7.42 by 5.50 by 3.12 millimeters for the 0.98 carat stone, these oval sapphires were shaped with a mixed brilliant cut to balance color, life, and size. At eye level both stones evaluate as very slightly included, which allows them to glow without visual distraction, and an excellent polish gives each facet edge a mirror finish that maximizes brilliance. The mixed brilliant cut is a deliberate choice, combining the crown facets and sparkle dynamics of a brilliant pattern with the elongated, flatter pavilion structure that supports color retention in pink sapphires. This approach differs from a full brilliant cut, which favors maximum fire and scintillation and is often used for diamonds, and from step cuts that emphasize depth of color and clean internal reflections, commonly chosen for emeralds and other colored stones. By marrying both philosophies in a mixed brilliant style our cutters preserved carat weight and shape, while carving a dance of light that throws both flashes of white brilliance and larger, vivid color windows. The result is an interplay of sparkle and hue, a lively presence on the finger or in a pendant that still reads as distinctly pink from every angle, a testament to the cutter’s eye and the lapidary team’s ability to read each rough crystal like a map.

When you consider these sapphires as finished jewels, imagine them set in a delicate pair of earrings or as a thoughtful duet flanking a central gem, each stone reflecting light in a slightly different way because of their unique dimensions and pavilion depths. The larger of the pair, with its slightly deeper pavilion, brings a richer saturation and a gentle, luxurious glow, while the slightly shallower partner offers a more immediate flash of brilliance, together creating a complementary balance that is ideal for designs that celebrate asymmetry and natural variation. At The Natural Sapphire Company we celebrate that individuality, and our bench cutters and polishers hand finish each gem to an exacting standard, checking symmetry, table size, girdle consistency, and facet alignment, so the mixed brilliant pattern performs with maximum return and minimum leakage. The cultural heritage of Ceylonese sapphires adds another layer to their story, a lineage of color and craftsmanship that has been admired for centuries, and these two stones carry that legacy into contemporary settings. If you are looking for a pair that pairs gemological integrity with artisanal cutting, these pink ovals offer intense color, excellent polish, and a considered cut that shows how technique can translate rough potential into wearable art. If you would like further details about matching settings, mounting recommendations, or to view an independent report, our gem specialists at The Natural Sapphire Company are ready to guide you through the next steps.
