Product description

This cushion shaped padparadscha sapphire offered by The Natural Sapphire Company is a technically refined gemstone, weighing 2.04 carats, and measuring 7.53 millimeters by 6.55 millimeters by 4.41 millimeters, yielding a depth percentage of approximately sixty two point seven percent, which sits in a range that supports both strong face up presence and internal return of light. The transparent body with intense color intensity and a clarity grade of very slightly included at eye level reflects careful material selection, and the excellent polish indicates that facet junctions and surface finish were executed to minimize optical leakage. The mixed brilliant cut is applied to a cushion outline to combine the scintillation of brilliant faceting on the crown with a pavilion architecture optimized to the refractive properties of corundum, and the stone has been heat treated to stabilize and enhance its padparadscha hue. Origin is Ceylon, Sri Lanka, which is consistent with the warm, saturated tone and the fine crystallographic habit that allowed the cutter to extract a balanced, intense pink orange palette while retaining a high degree of transparency.

From a faceting and light performance perspective, the mixed brilliant design employed on this cushion padparadscha is deliberate in its intention to maximize return of light for a material with a refractive index in the range of 1.762 to 1.770, and a dispersion of approximately 0.018. The crown uses a well measured table and a network of brilliant facets to create bright flashes and small scale scintillation, while the pavilion integrates modified facets that act to control light leakage and to enhance color saturation when viewed face up. The cutter appears to have prioritized a moderately sized table together with generous crown angle geometry to allow internal reflections to traverse color zones, producing the lively interplay of salmon and sunset tones characteristic of padparadscha. Excellent polish across all facets preserves specular highlights and reduces surface scattering, which is particularly important for sapphires since their dispersion is lower than that of diamond, making facet crispness and surface finish primary contributors to perceived brightness and sparkle.

Color science and pleochroic behavior are central to appreciating why this padparadscha stands apart from more common gemstones, and from typical sapphires of single hue. Padparadscha is defined by a unique balance of pink and orange, and this example displays an intense saturation that reads as warm salmon when viewed in diffuse light, and shifts toward peachy orange under stronger directional illumination. The cutter has oriented the stone to take advantage of corundum pleochroism so that face up presentation reveals the optimal mixture of wavelengths, while the transparent matrix and limited eye visible inclusions allow the color to remain clean and vivid. Compared to common blue sapphire, which relies on deep strong blue saturation for impact, this padparadscha derives its visual drama from mid tone brilliance combined with hue complexity. Compared to diamond, which owes much of its fire and scintillation to a very high refractive index and higher dispersion, this sapphire produces a different sensory effect, offering warm luminous depth and color flashes rather than the broad white and spectral fire of diamond. Against other pastel gemstones such as morganite or imperial topaz, this sapphire maintains superior hardness at nine on the Mohs scale, and a clarity and polish combination that permits both everyday wearability and optical intensity that remains stable over time.

Clarity considerations and practical recommendations round out the technical profile, the very slightly included grade at eye level indicates inclusions are minor and located such that they do not interrupt the visual color or compromise structural integrity, and with proper setting they will be well protected. Heat treatment is a stable, industry accepted enhancement for corundum, applied to optimize hue and improve clarity, and it is disclosed here for transparency. From a mounting standpoint, settings that expose the crown and table while securing the girdle are preferred when the goal is to display the dual pink orange interplay, therefore a four or six prong profile or a low profile bezel with an open gallery will preserve light entry and viewing angles. Metal choices can influence perceived warmth, and alloys with yellow or rose tones can sympathetically enhance the padparadscha note, while white metals will emphasize contrast and clarity. The Natural Sapphire Company stands behind the sourcing and treatment disclosure of this Ceylon origin padparadscha, and the set of photography and hand shots provided represent the actual gem so that experienced buyers can evaluate the cut proportions, hue distribution, and face up presence prior to commissioning a setting or making an acquisition.
