Product description

This 2.47 carat cushion shape green sapphire is presented by The Natural Sapphire Company, it measures 9.08 by 7.00 by 3.85 millimeters, it is transparent with a medium color intensity, and it has a mixed brilliant cut with an excellent polish. The cutter elected a cushion outline to marry classic proportions with modern light performance, and the mixed brilliant faceting scheme combines a brilliant style crown with a pavilion geometry tuned to maximize return and depth. Clarity is graded as very slightly included when evaluated at eye level, a designation that denotes only minor internal features that do not interrupt the stone face up, and the gem is entirely natural with no enhancement, its origin recorded as Ceylon, Sri Lanka. These facts are the starting point for assessing both the gemological quality and the design intent, the cutter balancing weight retention against the need for even tone and lively scintillation.

Examined under controlled lighting, the mixed brilliant cut design reveals a disciplined interplay between table size, crown angle, and pavilion alignment, the result being focused brilliance and a measured pattern of scintillation. The crown carries a network of well proportioned kite and star facets that act to break light into numerous small points of return, while the pavilion facets are oriented to promote internal reflection and to avoid windowing, a concern that can desaturate medium intensity sapphires if proportions are not exact. The medium color intensity sits in a sweet spot where the green reads clearly as a pure botanical green with slight yellow undertones in backlit viewing, and the stone shows a modest degree of pleochroic behavior, shifting from a warmer green to a slightly cooler green as the viewing angle changes. The excellent polish ensures facet junctions are crisp and clean, which sharpens facet contrast and helps the eye resolve the facets separately, a quality appreciated by connoisseurs who focus on the precision of lapidary execution.

The clarity grade of very slightly included, observed at eye level, warrants a practical description, the inclusions present are typically pinpoint crystals and fine rutile needles that lie discretely within the facet framework, they contribute negligible impact to durability and only a subtle internal character to the field of view. These internal features can act as microscopic fingerprints that affirm natural origin, they interact with the mixed brilliant faceting to create delicate internal flash that is visible when the stone is rotated, a trait that many collectors value as an index of authenticity. Because no heat treatment or other enhancement has been applied, the gem maintains its natural hue and zoning characteristics without artificial alteration, a condition that elevates desirability among specialists who prioritize untreated provenance. The Ceylon origin imparts a known geological signature, Ceylon deposits often yield sapphires with a luminous, silky color quality, and the current specimen embodies that lineage through a translucent body color that reads as medium, neither overly dark nor washed out.

Beyond the scientific evaluation, this green sapphire carries a narrative that is tied to its hue and its clarity, imagine a jewel shaped like a garden window, the green color recalling the tea terraces and rainforest canopy of Ceylon, Sri Lanka, a place where light filters through leaves in layered green planes. The medium intensity of the color suggests a balance between vitality and restraint, it is a green that speaks of renewal rather than excess, and the very slightly included clarity mirrors the human condition, transparency with tiny vestiges of history. In a romantic context one can envision the gem as a messenger exchanged in a quiet moment, the unenhanced nature of the stone serving as a promise of honesty, while the cushion shape offers a soft silhouette that sits like a palm held open. When set into a ring or a pendant the mixed brilliant cut will animate with movement, the small internal features will catch and scatter light in a way that is intimate rather than showy, and the wearer will carry both the geological story of Ceylon and the lapidary decisions that were made to honor the stone, all aspects that The Natural Sapphire Company documents and respects in our curatorial practice.
