I first encountered this sapphire where the land meets the sea in Ceylon Sri Lanka, in alluvial gravels searched by generations of local miners, and I watched it grow from a rough crystal into a jewel under the hands of our lapidaries at The Natural Sapphire Company. This 0.39 carat round sapphire began as bluish green rough, and was selected for its transparency and intense color. Carefully cut to a mixed brilliant design, and polished to an excellent finish, the gem measures 4.14 x 4.11 x 3.07 mm, and shows a clarity grade of very slightly included when viewed at eye level. We apply a standard, stable heat treatment to bring forth the depth and balance of its hue, a respectful enhancement that reveals the stone at its most expressive without masking its origin. The result is a small but lively stone, a compact beacon of oceanic green and teal, with a clean table and well defined facets that return light with an engaging scintillation.
As a salesperson and as someone who loves gemstones, I like to compare this Ceylon sapphire to more familiar stones so you can understand why it stands apart. Against pale aquamarine and blue topaz this sapphire offers far greater color saturation and dimensionality, where those lighter stones rely mostly on clarity for their appeal, this gem communicates through its intense bluish green body color and the way light moves through its mixed brilliant cut. Compared to emerald, which often captivates with green but can be heavily included, this sapphire combines strong color with transparent clarity, giving it a cleaner, more luminous presence on the finger. Against diamond, which naturally delivers unmatched white brilliance due to a higher refractive index, this sapphire offers something diamonds cannot, namely a living color and a deeper, more complex inner glow. The mixed brilliant cut maximizes both scintillation and color, so while it will not flash like a diamond, it will glow with layered flashes and depth that catch the eye in softer, more intimate ways. If you are seeking a gem that tells a story of place, of skilled hands, and of refined cutting that enhances natural beauty, this bluish green Ceylon sapphire from The Natural Sapphire Company is a refined choice, ideal for a minimalist solitaire or as a colored accent that brings a unique, enduring character to any design.
