This greenish blue 2.71 carat oval cabochon sapphire began its story deep in the historic gem gravels of Ceylon Sri Lanka, where generations of miners have long sought the island's distinct blue and green sapphires. Slowly liberated from the earth, this gemstone measures 7.79 by 6.67 by 4.50 millimeters and was chosen for its medium intense color saturation and its natural, unenhanced state. Skilled cutters shaped the stone into a smooth cabochon to best reveal its depth of color and to allow light to roll across its surface, creating a serene internal glow that faceted cuts rarely capture. Evaluated as very very slightly included at eye level, this sapphire presents an exceptionally clean face to the viewer, with only minute internal features that do not interrupt the gem's visual serenity. Compared to many high end rings on the market, where sapphires often undergo heat treatment or other enhancements to improve color and apparent clarity, this unenhanced Ceylon cabochon stands out for its natural purity. From the hands of the cutter the sapphire traveled to the bench of our master jeweler, where a platinum 950 setting was conceived to honor the stone without overwhelming it. On either side of the center sapphire sit white half moon shaped natural diamonds totaling approximately 0.30 carats, their clarity rated Very Slightly Included VS1 and VS2 and their color graded F, selected to provide a crisp, icy contrast to the blue green core. Complementing these are white tapered baguette diamonds of approximately 0.07 carats, matched for clarity and color to create balanced shoulders that lift the cabochon and allow light to play across its dome.
