From the ancient alluvial banks of Ceylon, a single crystal began its long conversation with light, water, and earth. Hand mined in Sri Lanka, this 0.88 carat round color change sapphire carried within it the history of centuries of cooling and pressure, and the deep, dark saturation that makes Ceylon sapphires so coveted. At The Natural Sapphire Company we tracked that crystal from its origin through careful selection, choosing a stone that measures 6.07 by 6.02 by 3.46 mm, that is transparent and evaluated as eye clean at eye level. The journey continued in the hands of a master cutter, where the mixed brilliant cut was carefully planned to honor both the weight and the natural pleochroism of the rough. Each facet angle was calculated to balance color change with brilliance, so that in different lights the sapphire whispers navy, deep violet, and midnight blue, and returns fire and scintillation with every small motion of the hand.
The cutting room was a place of patience, microscopes, and exacting polish, where the cutter trimmed and faceted until the stone reached a state of optical harmony, with an excellent polish that allows light to dance cleanly across every plane. The precision of the mixed brilliant faceting increases both depth of color and lively sparkle, drawing attention to the sapphire center and making its color change more theatrical under varied lighting. When the stone arrived at the bench it was set into a warm 14K rose gold ring, a metal chosen to flatter the cool, saturated tones of the sapphire and to frame it with a soft, modern glow. The setting is engineered to cradle the gem securely, with prongs refined to allow maximum light entry while holding the gem with impeccable symmetry. The result is a ring that reads as both heirloom and contemporary design, a single stone that tells the story of earth and craftsman, of origin and precision. At The Natural Sapphire Company we take pride in presenting this piece as an example of how exacting faceting and thoughtful design bring a natural treasure to its fullest life.
