From the mineral rich soils of Ceylon to the quiet benches of our master cutters, this ring tells a slow story of earth and hand working together. Born in Sri Lanka where centuries of gem cutting tradition meet unique geological forces, the 1.12 carat oval bi color sapphire carries both the memory of its birthplace and the clarity of modern evaluation. Measured at 7.17 x 5.14 x 3.75 mm, the stone reveals a vivid color saturation that shifts and deepens as light travels through its mixed zones of blue and lighter tones. The crystal first formed under heat and pressure over millennia, selecting a complex palette of trace elements that give this sapphire its bi color character, and when we received the rough at The Natural Sapphire Company we set out to conserve that natural drama. The clarity grade is very slightly included evaluated at eye level, which gives the stone an honest, lived in character while leaving the surface utterly open to light, and the polish was brought to an excellent finish to honor the stone s original voice.
The decision to use a mixed brilliant cut for this oval sapphire was made to maximize the way light is captured and returned. Our cutters combined a brilliant facet pattern on the crown with carefully considered pavilion facets so that each plane plays its part in gathering and redistributing light. The oval silhouette elongates the face of the gem, creating a long axis that allows light to travel and refract across more material, and the measured depth of 3.75 mm results in approximately sixty one percent depth relative to the stone s dimensions, a balanced proportion that preserves both color intensity and brilliance. Where a shallow cut can wash a sapphire out and a deep cut can lock color at the center, this mixed brilliant approach opens the gem to a lively interplay of flash and fire, producing scintillation when the hand moves and a steady, vivid core color when it rests. The excellent polish seals every facet junction, so reflections travel uninterrupted from pavilion to crown and back to the eye, maximizing return of light and delivering a lively, gemlike sparkle that makes the bi color nature sing.
Surrounding the sapphire is a halo of white round lab grown diamonds totaling approximately 0.42 carats. Each diamond has been selected for a color grade of F and clarity in the very slightly included range of VS1 and VS2, which means the stones read white and brilliant to the eye while offering the crisp facet reflections that enhance a center gem. Set in a classic halo arrangement, these diamonds act as a radiating frame, picking up and echoing the sapphire s flashes while introducing bright white contrast that amplifies perceived brightness. The mounting itself is crafted in platinum 950 which provides a cool white metal tone that supports and intensifies blue hues while offering exceptional durability. The choice of platinum also complements the mixed brilliant cut, because its strength allows our setters to hold each diamond and the center sapphire in precise alignment so that light flows cleanly from stone to stone without interruption.
At The Natural Sapphire Company the last stage is always the most intimate, where the cut meets the setting and the story becomes a wearable heirloom. Our artisans hand check each facet junction, test the symmetry of the oval, and evaluate the way light behaves in multiple lighting conditions before giving a final polish. The result is a ring that honors its Sri Lankan origin, a gem whose mixed brilliant cut maximizes light reflection and brilliance while preserving bi color character, framed by a halo of white lab grown diamonds and set in enduring platinum 950. This piece is made to be seen up close and admired from across the room, a small landscape of geology and craft that lands perfectly on the finger and carries a history with each glance. If you are drawn to a stone that balances vivid color, lively sparkle, and refined workmanship, this ring captures that balance in a way that only a carefully cut and thoughtfully set sapphire can.
