Product description

From its first stirrings deep within the ancient rock formations of Ceylon, Sri Lanka, this sapphire began a slow and patient life that spans geological ages, pressure, and heat. Formed as aluminum and trace elements rearranged under conditions most of us will never see, it developed the subtle internal zoning that gives it a natural bi color or parti character. The stone that would become this 1.95 carat oval shape sapphire measured 8.34 by 6.39 by 4.39 millimeters in its rough state when it was selected for cutting, and the decision to preserve its transparent clarity and unique color split was made with the same reverence a sculptor shows for a rare block of marble. Ceylon has a long and storied relationship with sapphires, celebrated for producing gems with lively hues and soulful depth, and this sapphire carries that lineage. Miners and local gem traders who handled the rough recognized its potential, noting the medium color intensity and the way light teased apart its two tones. The story of this sapphire is rooted in country, craft, and centuries of gem lore, and that human context is part of what The Natural Sapphire Company seeks to preserve and honor when we bring a stone from the earth to the world.

When the rough reached our master cutters, a careful plan was drawn to reveal maximum brilliance without sacrificing the stone's natural bi color charm. The cutting style chosen was faceted with a mixed brilliant cut, a deliberate geometry that blends the scintillating fire of brilliant facets with the depth and window stability of step and pavilion facets. The cutter mapped out a precise arrangement of crown and pavilion facets so that each plane would return light to the eye and also interact with the color zoning in dynamic ways. These geometric facets were placed with mathematical care, their angles calculated to optimize the refractive dance of light within the sapphire. The result is a gem that flashes and flickers as it moves, the mixed brilliant design allowing both broad flashes and pinpoint scintillation. The clarity evaluated at eye level is very very slightly included, known as VVS, which means the stone reads as transparent and clean to the naked eye, allowing the engineered facet geometry to perform without interruption. An excellent polish finishes every facet, so the surfaces are as reflective and smooth as glass, inviting light to enter, scatter, and return in brilliant displays.

The bi color or parti nature of this sapphire reveals itself as you change the angle of view or the source of illumination, and that mutable personality is part of its allure. With medium color intensity, neither tone overwhelms the other, so the gem offers a balanced dialogue between its hues rather than a clash. The mixed brilliant faceting enhances this conversation by creating micro windows that catch one color, while neighboring facets gather and throw back the other. Heat treated for improved stability and color uniformity, the sapphire retains its natural character while gaining resilience and an enhanced visual impact. Under direct light the geometric play of facets can split a single ray into a spectrum like a tiny cosmos, and under softer light the stone settles into a more introspective, velvety glow. The oval shape complements the bi color trait, elongating the appearance and allowing the color zones to flow along an elegant axis, a design that suits both classic settings and contemporary designs. For a wearer, this means a jewel that is alive, responding to movement and mood, offering a different facet of itself with every gesture.

When The Natural Sapphire Company presents this 1.95 carat, transparent, oval, bi color sapphire to a client, we are offering more than measurements and grades, we are offering a story that stretches from Ceylon s mineral womb through the hands of skilled artisans to the moment it meets skin. The journey continues when the gem is set into jewelry, where the cutter s geometric language converses with a designer s vision, and where the polished facets meet light in service of beauty and meaning. Whether chosen for an engagement ring, a pendant, or a bespoke creation, the sapphire is a candidate for heirloom status, a piece that will carry its origin story forward through generations. We back that narrative with careful documentation of origin, a transparent account of enhancement by heat treatment, and the assurance of precise measurements and grading. If you wish to experience this sapphire in person or discuss custom design options, The Natural Sapphire Company is ready to guide you, sharing the technical details and the cultural legacy that make this stone more than a gem, but a living artifact of earth and human craft.
