Product description

This C.Dunaigre certified, greenish blue, 8.35 carat cushion shape, bluish green sapphire measures 10.61 x 10.29 x 7.67 mm, and presents as a transparent, faceted gem cut in a mixed brilliant style. The cutting approach combines pavilion facets optimized for light return with a crown faceting pattern that favors color saturation, producing a lively balance of brilliance and hue. The clarity is graded as very slightly included evaluated at eye level, a level at which minute natural inclusions may be observed under careful scrutiny but do not detract from the gem being effectively eye clean in typical viewing conditions. Color intensity is classified as intense, with a stable greenish blue to bluish green tone that remains consistent from the table down through the pavilion, and the surface shows an excellent polish that contributes to its crisp facet junctions and clean face up appearance. There has been no enhancement applied to this stone, confirming that its color and clarity are natural attributes formed by geologic processes. The gem is of Madagascan origin, a region known for producing rich and varied corundum specimens, and the documentation that accompanies this sapphire verifies both its weight and its unenhanced status, providing an accurate reference for appraisal and setting considerations.

The story of this sapphire begins millions of years ago deep within the earth where aluminum rich rocks underwent prolonged episodes of heat and pressure that allowed corundum crystals to nucleate and grow. In environments influenced by metamorphism and localized magmatism the basic constituent, aluminum oxide, arranged into the dense crystalline structure that defines corundum, and trace elements such as iron and titanium were incorporated into the lattice in concentrations sufficient to produce the greenish blue to bluish green coloration observed today. Over geological timescales, tectonic forces uplifted the host rocks, exposing pockets where individual crystals had grown slowly within pockets and veins, and subsequent weathering liberated those crystals from their primary sites. Rivers and alluvial systems concentrated the denser corundum grains, sorting them by grain size and specific gravity, producing placers where gem quality sapphires gathered alongside other resistant minerals. Madagascar’s complex tectonic history provided multiple settings favorable to gem formation, and through cycles of uplift and erosion, this particular crystal made a long migration from crystallization to surface exposure, preserving within its interior a record of the temperatures, pressures, and elemental chemistry that governed its growth.

The cutting and finishing of this cushion sapphire were chosen to respect both the material and its provenance, with a mixed brilliant cut that preserves weight while maximizing optical performance. The stone’s proportions, including a depth of 7.67 mm relative to its length and width, support strong light return and a pleasing face up presence, while the cushion outline provides a classic silhouette that translates well into a variety of fine jewelry settings. The very slight inclusions contribute to confirmation of a natural origin and should be considered part of the gemstone’s individual character, microscopic fingerprints of the conditions under which it formed. As documented by The Natural Sapphire Company the gem is offered with full disclosure of origin and enhancement status, and the certification ensures that measurements, weight, and treatment history are accurately recorded. For practical use, the sapphire’s excellent polish and durable corundum composition make it suitable for daily wear when set in an appropriately secured mounting, and routine care consists of gentle cleaning with mild detergent and a soft brush. This specimen represents a direct connection to Earth processes that span deep time, a single crystal shaped by heat, pressure, and elemental chemistry, now cut and finished to reveal its inherent beauty in a manner that preserves both its physical integrity and its geologic story.
