This transparent 3.01 carat emerald cut bluish green sapphire measures 9.31 x 6.72 x 4.67 mm, and presents a classic emerald cut geometry with a broad table and parallel step facets that emphasize depth of color and clarity. The faceting style was selected to create a controlled light return, the long pavilion planes and precise crown height producing a concentrated window of saturated hue while maintaining lively facet contrast at the corners. Clarity is graded very slightly included at eye level, with internal features that remain minor and do not interrupt the primary visual plane, this grade allowing the deep dark color intensity to register consistently under varied lighting. The surface finish has an excellent polish, each facet junction crisp and free of abrasion, and the overall proportions were optimized to balance face up size with depth retention. Origin certified as Madagascar, enhancement by heat treatment is disclosed, a stable and widely accepted process used to refine tone and to relieve certain inclusions without altering the fundamental crystalline structure, and this stone is ready for precision settings that benefit from an architectural emerald cut such as bezel and channel mountings.
Several million years ago this sapphire began as corundum crystallizing within aluminum rich host rocks under high pressure and elevated temperature conditions deep in the continental crust, trace iron and titanium substituted into the corundum lattice during growth, imparting the bluish green hue that distinguishes this gem. Zoned growth and micro scale inclusions record fluctuations in chemistry and temperature during formation, and later tectonic uplift and erosion liberated crystals into alluvial channels where they endured transport and natural tumbling. The eventual selection of this rough by a skilled cutter privileged a crystal with clean orientation, allowing the lapidary to execute an emerald cut that harmonizes with the stone s inherent cleavage tendencies and maximizes optical performance. Heat treatment was applied in a controlled furnace to enhance hue uniformity and reduce the visual impact of certain inclusions, a technique documented in gemological literature and performed with respect for the stone s provenance. The Natural Sapphire Company offers this sapphire as an example of Malagasy material where geological history, meticulous cutting, and responsible enhancement converge to produce a durable, technically refined gemstone for discerning collectors and designers.
