This 2.77 carat oval blue sapphire began its journey in the alluvial terraces of Thailand, where skilled local miners recovered the rough crystal from weathered deposits, preserving the integrity of its corundum structure. Our initial assessment recorded dimensions of 10.04 x 7.85 x 4.14 mm, a transparent body and an intense color intensity that made it a prime candidate for precision cutting. The rough exhibited fine crystal clarity with natural inclusions, and after full disclosure we applied a controlled heat treatment to stabilize the blue hue and improve transparency. Evaluated at eye level the clarity is slightly included, which imparts character without compromising brilliance, and the origin provenance from Thailand informs both its material properties and its trade history. From the mine the pavilion and crown orientations were mapped using magnified inspection and spectral analysis, ensuring the final orientation would maximize the saturation and evenness of the deep blue color.
During the cutting process our lapidaries at The Natural Sapphire Company employed a mixed brilliant cut to balance scintillation and color depth, combining a faceted pavilion optimized for light return with a modified brilliant crown to enhance surface flash. The cutter emphasized symmetry of the oval outline and a well proportioned table to maintain color zoning control across the crown, while the girdle was kept even to facilitate secure mounting. The facet junctions exhibit excellent polish, and careful attention to facet angles reduced light leakage and preserved the intense blue saturation. Finished at 2.77 carat with an excellent polish and consistent facet geometry, this sapphire offers a strong face up presence, lively internal reflections and a saturated tone suitable for both classic solitaires and refined settings where color depth is paramount. The Natural Sapphire Company handled every step from provenance verification to final quality control, providing full disclosure on heat treatment and a technical report outlining measurements, weight, clarity grade evaluated at eye level, cut style and origin, ensuring a transparent passage from mine to market.
