Product description

From the first moment you see it, this sapphire tells a story that begins long before human memory, a tale recorded in the crystalline geometry of corundum and in the deep, saturated blue that seems to hold a fragment of the sky. This particular gem is a beautiful transparent 2.11 carat cushion shape blue sapphire, whose dimensions measure 6.93 by 6.61 by 5.03 millimeters, a size that balances presence with elegant restraint. Expertly fashioned with a mixed brilliant cut, it displays scintillation and depth that are the result of both nature and human hands. Evaluated at eye level, its clarity is graded as very very slightly included, a testament to its natural origin, and its color intensity is classified as intense, a hue that calls to mind the historic sapphires of monarchs and temples. The polish is excellent, allowing light to travel and return with clarity and fire. The gem has received no enhancement, and its origin is Ceylon, Sri Lanka, a land whose gem bearing soils and rivers have supplied the world with some of the most treasured sapphires for centuries, and The Natural Sapphire Company is proud to present such a fine example of that legacy.

To imagine how this sapphire was formed is to travel back across vast spans of geological time, to an age when the rocks of Sri Lanka were shaped by tectonic collisions, heat, and pressure that brought aluminum rich minerals into contact with titanium and iron. Corundum crystals grow under prolonged conditions of extreme heat and pressure, within metamorphic terrains and in pockets where aluminum oxide could concentrate and crystallize. Over millions of years, these crystals slowly accreted, layer upon layer, each atom finding its place in a rigid lattice that would one day refract and reflect light as gem quality sapphire. The trace elements that were present during formation, primarily titanium and iron, infused the crystal with the intense blue that we now admire, creating a depth of color that seems to change as the stone moves. The geological processes that created this sapphire were patient and monumental, invisible acts of nature that continued until weathering and erosion liberated the crystals from their host rocks. Rivers and alluvial plains then carried and concentrated the gems, setting them into gravels and bringing them within reach of those who would discover and value them.

When the rough crystal reached the hands of skilled cutters, a new chapter of craftsmanship began, one that transformed raw earth into a jewel designed to harness light and color. The mixed brilliant cut chosen for this cushion shaped sapphire was selected to maximize the stone s innate color while balancing brilliance and light return. The cushion silhouette, with its gently rounded corners and broad facets, speaks to a tradition of classical jewelry that has endured for generations, an aesthetic that respects symmetry and proportion and emphasizes the gem s inner glow. The cutter paid careful attention to proportion, preserving weight and color saturation across the 6.93 by 6.61 by 5.03 millimeter dimensions, and polishing each facet to an excellent finish so that the facets speak together, unifying fire and hue. This thoughtful cutting philosophy is part of what gives the gem its timeless quality, a look that will suit both vintage inspired settings and contemporary designs, and that will carry forward the history of the stone into the lives of those who wear it.

Owning this sapphire means carrying forward a legacy that spans continents and centuries, a legacy we steward at The Natural Sapphire Company with care and respect. Its intense blue and very very slightly included clarity recall antiquity, when sapphires were prized by kings and priests for their perceived connection to the heavens, and yet its clean polish and proportion make it perfectly at home in modern life. Because it is untreated, its color and clarity are wholly natural, an unaltered record of the earth s alchemy, and its Ceylon provenance connects it to a storied gem tradition that values both beauty and authenticity. Set into a ring, pendant, or pair of heirloom earrings, this cushion shape sapphire will become more than an object, it will become a keepsake that documents a life and a lineage. For the collector, the connoisseur, or the person seeking a meaningful gift, this gem offers a bridge between past and present, nature and craft, history and future. We invite you to consider this sapphire as a companion to your life s milestones, confident that its story will continue to unfold with each passing generation, under the careful care of those who value true natural beauty.
