From the ancient alluvial gravels of Ceylon, Sri Lanka, this 2.03 carat cushion shape color change sapphire began its long journey, formed under heat and pressure within the island's storied gem gravels, and recovered by hands who have read the land for generations, The Natural Sapphire Company brings you stones with provenance and personality. Measuring 7.84 x 5.54 x 4.78 mm, cut in a mixed brilliant pattern and finished to an excellent polish, this transparent sapphire shows vivid color intensity and a rare, natural color change that shifts from a deep cornflower blue in fluorescent lighting to a rich purple in incandescent light. Unenhanced and wholly natural, the gem bears a clarity grade of very slightly included when evaluated at eye level, a grading that speaks to both its natural origin and the careful cutting that maximizes its optical performance.

What gives this sapphire its unmistakable signature are the tiny internal features that tell the story of its growth and passage. Fine rutile needles form a delicate silk that softens the stone and modulates light, a whisper of the sapphire's crystalline history that creates a velvety depth to the blue, while scattered pinpoint crystals and minuscule negative crystals catch the light and create a lively internal cosmos.
