Product description

This transparent oval blue sapphire weighs 1.62 carats, and measures 7.22 by 6.07 by 4.71 millimeters, presented by The Natural Sapphire Company. The stone is cut in an oval shape with a mixed brilliant faceting arrangement, finished to an excellent polish. Its clarity is graded as very slightly included evaluated at eye level, and its color displays a medium intensity blue consistent with sapphires from Ceylon Sri Lanka, the stated origin. The stone has been heat treated, a standard and stable enhancement in sapphire preparation, applied to improve color uniformity and optical performance. These core attributes establish the starting point for understanding how the cut interacts with the material to optimize light reflection, return, and perceived color. Attention to dimensions, symmetry, and facet proportion are essential to realizing the full optical potential of a sapphire with these characteristics.

The mixed brilliant cut combines a step influenced crown and a brilliant style pavilion to marry color depth with dynamic light performance. The crown facets are arranged to capture incident light and refract it into the pavilion, where carefully angled pavilion facets reflect light back through the crown and table. With a measured depth of 4.71 millimeters, the depth proportion relative to the average diameter of approximately 6.645 millimeters is approximately 70.9 percent, a proportion that supports substantial light return for a sapphire with a mixed pavilion design. The oval outline introduces a longer table and elongated facet pattern which increases the apparent size while promoting even distribution of light across the surface, limiting dark fans that can occur in poorly proportioned ovals. The combined effect of crown geometry, pavilion angles, and a well balanced table results in lively brilliance, controlled scintillation, and strong overall face up brightness.

The mixed brilliant faceting also plays a central role in modulating the stone’s color and clarity effects. Medium color intensity benefits from the faceting scheme because the pavilion facets direct light through paths that increase color saturation without creating overly dark areas, allowing the blue tone to remain vivid under a range of lighting conditions. The very slightly included clarity grade evaluated at eye level indicates minor internal features that are not visually obtrusive, and the cut is executed to position facets so that these inclusions are minimally disruptive to the light path. Excellent polish enhances specular reflection from facet surfaces, improving contrast between bright flashes and darker areas that define scintillation. Additionally sapphires are pleochroic, showing different color saturation along different crystallographic directions, and the cutter has oriented the pavilion and crown to present the most appealing face up color, while preserving the stone’s internal structure and weight.

For practical use in jewelry, the mixed brilliant oval form of this 1.62 carat sapphire makes it adaptable to a variety of settings and designs that prioritize both color and sparkle. When mounted with a moderate bezel or prong setting that exposes the crown, the stone will display its optimized light return and balanced color, and under daylight and artificial illumination the mixed faceting will offer consistent scintillation and lively reflections. The heat treatment noted in the description is a stable enhancement that improves color uniformity without compromising durability, and the origin attribution to Ceylon Sri Lanka aligns with regional material known for its lighter to medium blue tones and vibrant clarity. At The Natural Sapphire Company we provide these factual specifications and images so that gem setters and buyers can assess how the cut enhances the sapphire’s inherent optical properties, ensuring that the chosen design will highlight brilliance, color, and overall visual performance.
