Product description

This GIA certified natural sapphire is a pear shaped gem weighing one point five eight carats, produced from a single crystal of corundum sourced in Ceylon Sri Lanka, and supplied through The Natural Sapphire Company. The stone measures eight point two eight millimeters by five point three six millimeters by four point five three millimeters, and is transparent with no enhancement reported on its laboratory analysis. The gem was cut in a mixed brilliant style, combining a brilliant facet arrangement on the crown with a precision faceted pavilion, and it presents a clarity grading of eye clean when evaluated at eye level. The color is graded as vivid in intensity, the polish is excellent, and the overall presentation is consistent with the quality parameters recorded on the independent GIA report that accompanies the sapphire.

From a cutting and proportion standpoint the pear profile has been executed to balance face up spread and optical performance, and the length to width ratio of approximately one point five five produces an elegant teardrop outline that reads well both in solitaire settings and as a focal stone in multi stone designs. The pavilion and crown facet geometry is typical of a mixed brilliant approach, with a well proportioned crown height and pavilion depth that together promote return of light to the table while maintaining scintillation from crown facets. The measured depth of four point five three millimeters yields a depth to average dimension ratio of approximately sixty six point four percent, a proportion that supports lively brilliance while retaining a generous face up area, and the facet junctions and girdle treatment exhibit the crisp execution and symmetrical alignment associated with excellent polish and lapidary control.

Color and clarity characteristics are central to the sapphire value proposition, and this gem displays a vivid, saturated blue with a medium to strong tone that maximizes chroma without appearing overly dark in standard viewing conditions. The hue presents as classic Ceylon blue, with the brightness and saturation that Sri Lankan sapphires are historically acknowledged for, and the eye clean clarity grade indicates the absence of inclusions that would obstruct the gem s visual impact under typical unaided viewing. The excellent polish enhances facet contrast and allows precise light return, and because the sapphire is natural and free of enhancement treatments, the stone retains the full premium associated with untreated gemstones. The combination of vivid color, clean appearance to the eye, and skilled faceting makes this specimen particularly desirable to connoisseurs who prioritize natural origin and minimal intervention.

Linking gemological attributes to heritage, sapphires from Ceylon have long been used in ceremonial and personal jewelry, serving as symbols of authority, protection, and devotion across cultures, and the present pear shaped example continues that tradition in applications ranging from signet and ecclesiastical mounts to contemporary engagement rings. The Natural Sapphire Company presents this sapphire with contextual guidance for mounting and preservation, and we recommend settings that both protect the pointed end of the pear and allow maximum light to enter the crown. A V prong or partial bezel at the tip will secure the stone while a three or four prong arrangement on the rounded end will preserve the face up presentation, and metals such as platinum or eighteen karat white gold will enhance the cool blue tones while yellow gold provides a classical contrast that emphasizes color saturation. For routine care use warm water with a mild detergent and a soft brush to remove surface soils, avoid harsh chemical exposure, and store the piece separately from other gems to prevent abrasion, and the untreated nature of the sapphire allows safe mechanical cleaning methods in most circumstances, although specialized conservation should follow any high value restoration or repair protocol. The accompanying GIA certificate, and the provenance documentation provided by The Natural Sapphire Company, ensure traceability and support confident acquisition for collectors and jewelers who value both technical excellence and the cultural lineage of Ceylon sapphires.
