This transparent 1.46 carat emerald cut bluish green sapphire measures 6.18 x 5.44 x 4.22 mm, and presents a precise step facet architecture that accentuates color depth and directional light return. The table is broad and flat, the crown and pavilion are arranged in graduated rectangular steps, and the truncated corners typical of the emerald cut reduce stress concentrations and enhance durability during setting. The story of this sapphire begins deep within the Earth, during a protracted span of metamorphism that occurred millions of years ago beneath the Kenyan crust, where regional heat and compressive tectonics transformed aluminous protoliths into corundum bearing assemblages. Under high pressure and elevated temperature conditions, aluminum rich, silica poor veins concentrated aluminum oxide, while trace transition elements such as iron and titanium were incorporated into the corundum lattice. The specific bluish green tone arises from a complex interaction of iron in multiple valence states, and minor contributions of other trace elements, producing selective absorption bands that yield the observed hue. Over geological time frames, slow crystal growth favored well formed euhedral habit and relatively low inclusion density, features that allowed our cutters to exploit the intrinsic transparency and to fashion an emerald cut that balances color saturation with light return. Secondary tectonic uplift and erosional processes eventually exposed the gem bearing horizons, allowing careful mining and provenance documentation that confirm Kenyan origin.
