Product description

This 1.30 carat oval blue sapphire presents as a transparent gem with dimensions of 6.97 by 5.90 by 3.86 mm, originating from Ceylon Sri Lanka, and heat treated to enhance color and clarity. The stone has been fashioned in a mixed brilliant cut, combining a brilliant style crown with a precision faceted pavilion that together balance light return and color saturation, and the excellent polish enhances surface luster and scintillation. The oval outline measures slightly longer than wide, providing an elegant table plane that allows the intense color intensity to present evenly face up, while the proportioned pavilion depth supports strong internal reflection without creating a dominant windowed area. The cutter optimized facet junctions and symmetry to control extinction and to maximize blue saturation across viewing angles, resulting in lively facet contrast and an attractive overall balance between brilliance and color concentration.

Color is the dominant attribute of this piece, described and evaluated as intense in color intensity with a primary hue of pure blue and a slight tendency toward cool undertone that is characteristic of prized Ceylon material. Under direct and diffused lighting the sapphire displays vibrant face up color, with balanced saturation that reads both vivid and clean without appearing overly dark, enabling the gem to convey depth while remaining lively on the finger. The mixed brilliant faceting contributes to dynamic light behavior, producing flashes of bright blue reflection from the crown facets and deeper velvety blue return from the pavilion facets, and the stone exhibits the moderate pleochroic behavior typical of Ceylon sapphires, shifting between pure blue and a subtly violet tinged blue when rotated. The result is a gem that reads as intense and captivating in daily wear, and whose color remains stable across common lighting environments, aided by the controlled heat treatment used to refine tone and improve overall consistency.

Clarity is graded eye clean, evaluated at normal viewing distance, which means the stone presents to the unaided eye without any significant blemish or inclusion that interferes with its beauty, while under magnification it reveals internal features that serve as unique identifiers and add character to the gem. Typical internal markers such as fine rutile silk, minute crystal inclusions and occasional negative crystal patterns appear under loupe inspection, and these features act as the sapphire equivalent of a fingerprint, offering provenance clues and helping to distinguish this natural material from synthetic analogues. Heat treatment in this specimen has softened and partially oriented any rutile silk, increasing transparency and reducing the visual impact of inclusions, while preserving enough internal texture to authenticate natural origin and to provide depth and internal life. For setting considerations the stone is ideally suited to a proportionally open gallery and secure prong or low bezel setting that preserves face up color and allows light to enter and exit through the pavilion, and The Natural Sapphire Company can advise on mounting proportions to maintain table size and pavilion depth relations that are important to the gemological performance of this oval sapphire.
