Product description

This transparent 1.11 carat oval bluish green sapphire from Tanzania measures 5.93 by 5.53 by 4.41 millimeters and is fashioned in a mixed brilliant cut. The mixed brilliant design combines pavilion facets optimized for light return with a faceted crown that enhances contrast and scintillation, and the excellent polish further maximizes surface reflection and crisp facet junctions. Color is intense across the table and crown, and the stone was graded slightly included at eye level, indicating minor internal features that do not materially degrade transparency or light performance when set. There is no enhancement, so the hue and saturation are natural characteristics of the material. Overall the gem presents a lively interplay of bluish and greenish tones that shift with viewing angle, with clean, well-defined facet reflections and a consistently bright appearance for its size.

Compared with other gems in the corundum family and adjacent categories, this sapphire’s reflective qualities are defined by corundum’s relatively high refractive index and vitreous luster, which produce strong light return and noticeable facet contrast while maintaining low dispersion, so fire is restrained compared with high-dispersion stones. Against typical blue sapphires, this bluish green example displays more pronounced color movement and pleochroism, showing distinct blue and green flashes as the stone is rotated, whereas classic deep-blue sapphires often present more uniform, saturated blue with steadier light return. Versus beryl varieties such as aquamarine, which have a lower refractive index and consequently softer brilliance, this sapphire exhibits sharper scintillation and crisper facet reflections. Compared to tourmaline and many green spinels, the Tanzanian sapphire offers stronger facet contrast and a brighter overall appearance due to corundum’s optical properties, though spinel can appear slightly more lively in dispersion because of subtle differences in cut and clarity. When assessed next to emerald, the sapphire’s transparency and reflective clarity are markedly superior; emeralds typically show more internal characteristics that diffuse light. The Natural Sapphire Company presents this sapphire as an example of corundum that balances intense natural color, polished facetry, and robust light return, offering refined brilliance and dynamic color interaction characteristic of high-quality teal to bluish green sapphires.
