Product description

This oval shaped bluish green sapphire, weighing 1.06 carat, presents a precise balance of size and optical presence, with finished dimensions of 6.26 by 5.27 by 3.63 millimeters. The gem is a transparent natural corundum from Tanzania, supplied by The Natural Sapphire Company, and it is offered without any enhancement. The measured proportions yield a depth that is optimized for faceted performance, approximately 63 percent when related to the mean of length and width, which positions the pavilion depth to both retain weight and promote internal light return. The clarity is graded as very slightly included, evaluated at eye level, indicating only minimal, unobtrusive inclusions that do not materially affect the gem s transparency or its ability to transmit and refract light. The polish is excellent, with facet junctions rendered crisply to preserve sharp specular reflections and to minimize surface diffusion that would otherwise mute brilliance.

The cutting is a mixed brilliant style, executed to marry the scintillation of a brilliant crown with the controlled light return of a modified pavilion. The crown configuration employs a well proportioned table, a set of bezel facets and star facets that direct incoming light to the pavilion, and an array of upper girdle facets that fragment broad flashes into lively scintillation. The pavilion uses a combination of pavilion mains and lower facets cut to angles that favor total internal reflection while avoiding leakage through the girdle. The result is a geometric faceting architecture that maximizes light play, delivering a complex interplay of pinpoint brilliance and broad reflective flashes as the stone is rotated. The oval outline enhances directional light movement along the length of the gem, creating a visually elongated pattern of brightness that complements the mixed faceting scheme.

Color performance is intense, with a primary bluish green hue that exhibits lively saturation and even distribution across the table. The hue sits in a blend that leans toward green under some lighting, and toward blue under other angles, a behavior characteristic of pleochroism in corundum. Under neutral daylight the color presents as an intense bluish green, while incandescent or warm light will often emphasize the greener component, and cooler light will bring forward the bluer tones. This dynamic color response, together with the precision of the mixed brilliant faceting, produces varied color flashes that interact with facet reflections, enhancing perceived depth and complexity. Because the stone is unenhanced, its color is entirely natural, and the intense saturation should translate well into both white metal and warm metal settings, where contrast and contrast of hue can be used to either emphasize or moderate the color depending on design intent.

For the jeweler and the collector who prize technical execution as much as material quality, this sapphire offers a refined set of attributes. The excellent polish preserves facet crispness, ensuring tight facet intersections and high contrast between light and dark facet areas, which is essential for pronounced scintillation and efficient light return. The very slightly included clarity grade means inclusions are minimal and generally located such that they do not interfere with the central light pathway, maintaining eye clean appearance in most viewing positions. Origin from Tanzania is associated with a specific geological signature and mineral matrix that informs both color and crystal habit, and the absence of enhancement confirms natural color stability. When setting, consider mid bezel or four prong configurations that allow the crown and pavilion to interact with ambient light, thereby exploiting the geometric faceting to maximum effect. The Natural Sapphire Company stands behind the material integrity and craftsmanship of this piece, and this stone is particularly well suited to a custom engagement ring, a sculptural pendant, or a collector s cabinet where optical performance and natural provenance are valued.
