One beautiful transparent 1.04 carat round shape blue sapphire from Ceylon, presenting dimensions of 6.27 by 6.25 by 3.57 millimeters, mixed brilliant cut, clarity graded very slightly included when evaluated at eye level, vivid color intensity, and an excellent polish. This gem has been heat treated to refine and stabilize its hue, a standard and permanent enhancement in sapphire finishing. The proportions and mixed brilliant faceting have been selected to balance color saturation with brilliance, producing lively returns of deep blue across the table and crown. The Natural Sapphire Company presents this stone as an example of classic Ceylon character, where saturation and transparency combine with a clean window to internal structure, suitable for a refined, enduring setting.
The story of this sapphire begins millions of years ago within the high grade metamorphic terrains of Sri Lanka, where aluminum rich sediments and igneous intrusions underwent intense regional metamorphism. Under sustained pressure and elevated temperatures, aluminum oxide rearranged into the crystalline form corundum, the mineral species of sapphire. Trace amounts of iron and titanium became incorporated into the growing crystal lattice, selectively absorbing portions of the visible spectrum and producing the vivid blue that characterizes this piece. Slow crystal growth under stable conditions promoted transparency and minimized internal stress, while minor trapped mineral inclusions are preserved as the very slight features noted in the clarity grade. Subsequent uplift, weathering, and erosion liberated gem quality crystals from their bedrock, concentrating them in secondary alluvial gravels where they were recovered by careful mining. Skilled lapidaries then examined the natural crystal habit and orientation, choosing a mixed brilliant design to maximize both face up color and light return, cutting to finished dimensions of 6.27 by 6.25 by 3.57 millimeters and polishing to an excellent finish. Heat treatment was applied to optimize tone and remove residual silk or color inconsistencies, resulting in a stable, vivid presentation. The resulting 1.04 carat sapphire embodies both the geological time that formed it and the measured craftsmanship that prepared it for wear, a natural object documented and offered by The Natural Sapphire Company.
