Product description

Deep in the Mesoproterozoic to Neoproterozoic crustal cycles, the mineral precursors that became this 0.89 carat cushion sapphire nucleated within metasomatic corridors in Madagascar, where boron and aluminum rich fluids percolated through feldspathic host rocks under moderate to high pressure and temperature regimes. Over millions of years, sequential episodes of recrystallization and slow cooling promoted the ordering of aluminum and trace iron and titanium within the corundum lattice, producing the depth of chromatic response now described as vivid color intensity, while sparse needle and crystal inclusions were trapped during growth, accounting for the slightly included clarity grade as observed at eye level. Tectonic uplift and weathering eventually liberated these sapphire crystals into alluvial deposits, where natural tumbling smoothed external growth etchings, and subsequent hand selection isolated transparent, gem quality crystals suitable for precision cutting. The combined history of chemical substitution, controlled cooling, and mechanical transport is recorded in the stone as variation in color zoning and internal features, and this provenance narrative is central to understanding the balance between natural formation and intentional enhancement.

The lapidary work executed by The Natural Sapphire Company transformed the rough into a 5.06 x 5.01 x 3.73 mm cushion shaped gem, employing a mixed brilliant faceting scheme to maximize both table scintillation and pavilion light return, with crown facets cut to angles that favor blue saturation without sacrificing face up brightness. Weighing 0.89 carat, the stone exhibits transparent body color with vivid blue intensity, and the clarity evaluation of slightly included at eye level indicates presence of minor internal features that do not materially detract from overall visual performance when set. The excellent polish is the result of staged polishing laps and fine diamond paste, producing facet junctions that deliver crisp light performance and minimal surface diffusion. This sapphire has undergone standard heat treatment to enhance color saturation and reduce the appearance of certain growth stains, a stable and widely accepted enhancement that complements the gemological profile without undermining structural integrity. For connoisseurs who value documented origin and skilled cutting, this Madagascar sapphire offers a demonstrable geological history, meticulous craftsmanship in mixed brilliant faceting, and the tonal depth only a vivid blue, well proportioned, and expertly polished sapphire can provide.
