Product description

This 0.66 carat, round shape color change sapphire measures 5.14 by 5.15 by 3.17 mm, and it has been faceted as a mixed brilliant cut to marry optimal light performance with color saturation. The mixed brilliant treatment on a round outline typically combines a full brilliant style crown with a modified pavilion geometry to concentrate color while preserving fire and return. In this specimen the crown planes are crisply executed to create controlled scintillation across the table, while the pavilion has been fashioned to deepen tone without sacrificing scintillation. The table proportion and crown height have been balanced to provide an even window into the gem, and the girdle has been left at a moderate thickness to facilitate secure mounting. The proportions and facet alignment show the work of a cutter focused on achieving maximum color intensity and efficient light return in a sub one carat round, and the excellent polish ensures that facet junctions are sharp and reflective, contributing to the overall visual precision of the stone.

Color is the defining attribute of this sapphire, classified with an intense color intensity and exhibiting a discernible color change depending on the illumination. In mixed lighting the stone demonstrates the classic corundum dichroism and pleochroic behavior that contributes to its change in hue, appearing cooler and more saturated under fluorescent light and warmer with increased depth under incandescent sources. This optical variability is a function of the trace element chemistry and the interaction of light with the crystal lattice, and in Sri Lankan or Ceylon material it often produces vibrant, lively tones with excellent saturation. Importantly, this sapphire is natural with no enhancement, so the color and change characteristic are intrinsic to the crystal and stable under normal wear. Collectors and connoisseurs will appreciate that the intense color is not the result of heating or diffusion, but of the stone s native chemistry and the skillful cutting that accentuates its color change behavior.

Clarity and internal character have been evaluated at eye level as very very slightly included, indicating that any inclusions are minute and do not interrupt visual performance when set. At this clarity grade the gemstone presents as transparent, with inclusions that are typically only detectable under magnification and that can act as fingerprint features confirming natural origin. The optical stability of the cut and the excellent polish amplify brilliance and minimize light leakage, so the visual effect is a lively play of color and sparkle rather than a dull or congested appearance. From a gemological standpoint, corundum s optical constants including a refractive index around one point seven six to one point seven seven and a hardness of nine on the Mohs scale make this sapphire both optically attractive and durable for everyday wear. The cutter s decision to use a mixed brilliant schema was deliberate, aimed at enhancing saturation while retaining strong facet to facet return, a trade off that benefits colored stones where depth of tone is often more desirable than maximum dispersion.

As a gift this round color change sapphire delivers an unmistakable sense of rarity and refinement, an ideal present for a milestone birthday, anniversary, or other meaningful occasion. The combination of Ceylon provenance, natural untreated status, intense color change, and meticulous cutting creates a stone that will be noticed and admired, offering a visual narrative that changes with the wearer s environment. The Natural Sapphire Company stands behind the gem s origins and craftsmanship, and we can assist with bespoke mounting options that respect the gem s optical behavior, whether you prefer a setting that exposes the pavilion to light to emphasize change, or a traditional closed back design to concentrate color. At roughly six millimeters across and under one carat, it is perfectly sized to center a refined ring or to act as a poignant focal point in a pendant, providing a wearable piece of gemological interest that is both technically sophisticated and emotionally resonant.
