Product description

From the cool, emerald lined hills of Ceylon, now known as Sri Lanka, comes a story written in stone, water, and time. Deep in terrain that has yielded sapphires for centuries, these two cushions began as fragments of crystallized corundum, formed under pressure and heat over geological epochs. The natural forces that shaped them imbued each with a unique internal character, a memory of the environment that made them. When we first set eyes on these stones at The Natural Sapphire Company, their intense blue color stopped us in our tracks, a hue that reads like evening sky and deep ocean combined. The pair weigh 3.00 carats and 3.06 carats respectively, and each has been shaped into a cushion form with mixed brilliant facets, dimensions of 7.21 by 7.11 by 5.96 millimeters for one, and 7.29 by 7.15 by 6.36 millimeters for the other. At eye level they are graded very very slightly included. Their polish is excellent, and like many fine sapphires from Sri Lanka, they have been heat treated to bring out their rich and lively tones, a stable and widely accepted enhancement that reveals the best of their character.

The lapidary journey that transformed these rough crystals into matched cushions is part craft and part conversation with the stone. Our cutters worked to respect each sapphire, balancing weight retention with the goal of creating two stones that speak to one another when set side by side. The mixed brilliant cut was chosen to maximize scintillation while keeping the soft cushion silhouette that flatters most settings. When light enters these sapphires it dances across a carefully faceted architecture, returning vibrant flashes and a deep, even color that reads intense from every angle. Pairing is an art in itself, and these two were matched for weight, hue, and visual appeal, which makes them ideal for a symmetrical setting such as a pair of stud earrings, a twin pendant, or a matched set of accents flanking a central gem. Each facet was polished to an excellent finish so that the stones present a lively, lively face up that feels both classic and contemporary.

One of the most rewarding aspects of these sapphires is how readily they can be customized to harmonize with jewelry you already own. Whether you wish to update a family heirloom, create a complementary pendant for a treasured necklace, or add matching stones to an existing ring, our design team at The Natural Sapphire Company can guide you through choices that preserve the stones identity while enhancing the whole. Metal selection matters to the way the blue reads on the finger or against the skin, so we will discuss platinum or white gold for a crisp, modern contrast, or yellow or rose gold to add warmth and a vintage mood. Settings also shape perception, a low bezel can protect and deepen the color, while delicate prongs allow maximum light to animate the mixed brilliant facets. For continuity with an existing piece we can match prong profiles, gallery heights, and shank widths so the finished item looks like it was born with your collection. If you want the pair to sit with a particular ring or necklace, bring the piece to us or send detailed photographs and measurements, and we will create CAD renderings and mockups that show how the sapphires will look when integrated. We can also recommend accent stones and metal finishes that mirror the patina of older pieces, or propose complementary diamonds to balance color and add sparkle.

Owning these two Ceylon sapphires means carrying a small story of the earth with you, beautifully finished and ready to be set into a piece that reflects your own story. Our in house jewelers pride themselves on precise mounting, color balancing, and finishing touches that make the pair feel like a natural extension of whatever piece you choose to update or create. Heat treatment in sapphires is stable, and with routine care these stones will retain their beauty for generations. If you wish, we can include matching documentation that records their measurements, carat weights, clarity observations, enhancement, and origin. At The Natural Sapphire Company we enjoy crafting bespoke solutions, from matched stud earrings to a pendant and ring set that respond to colors and metalwork already in your jewelry box. Contact us for a personal consultation, and we will walk you through the design options, provide visual mockups, and arrange to set the sapphires in a way that honors their Sri Lankan origin and your individual aesthetic.
