Product description

Every gemstone begins as a quiet secret buried in the earth, and these two Ceylon sapphires began their story in the old gravel beds and alluvial terraces of Sri Lanka, where light meets ancient rock to reveal blue like a memory of sky. Mined with skill and patience, these transparent, oval shape blue sapphires weigh 2.46 carats and 2.41 carats respectively, and carry the soft, luminous medium color intensity that Ceylon is celebrated for. The first stone measures 9.30 by 6.74 by 4.32 mm, the second measures 9.32 by 6.74 by 4.51 mm, each cut in a mixed brilliant structure to balance scintillation with depth. When our team at The Natural Sapphire Company first saw them in the rough, the promise of even tone and lively reflection was unmistakable, a promise fulfilled by their eye clean clarity and their excellent polish, and by the fact that they are completely natural with no enhancement.

The journey from rough to gem is a careful conversation between cutter and material, and for these matched ovals that conversation was especially intimate. Each facet was positioned to respect the stone s internal flow, to allow the blue to breathe without forcing a tone that does not belong. Mixed brilliant cutting brings a modern play of light within a classical oval silhouette, preserving weight and proportion while coaxing bright flashes from the face and lively return through the pavilion. The dimensions and the close parity in size mean these two stones sit together with symmetry and grace, yet each keeps the personality imparted by its own subtle depth and pavilion angles. Evaluated at eye level, both are eye clean, which allows the viewer to be drawn straight into the serene blue, and the excellent polish ensures that each tilt of the hand sends a clear, satiny sheen across the table.

Paired gemstones invite comparison, and in this case the pairing speaks of harmony rather than contrast. Against the rarer, more velvety Kashmir blues, these Ceylon sapphires read as brighter and more lyrical, a lively medium blue with cool clarity rather than the inky, saturated tone of certain old mine pieces. Compared to classic Burmese pieces, which often skew toward a rich royal blue, these stones feel more vivacious and a touch more contemporary, with an openness that flatters both warm and cool metals. Paired with lighter stones such as aquamarine, the Ceylon blues maintain their presence without overpowering, offering a mid tone anchor that complements rather than competes. When set beside diamonds, the sapphires frame the sparkle, their medium intensity providing color contrast that makes the white gems appear whiter and more scintillant. For matched earrings, a halo set, or as companion stones in a bespoke ring, this pair reads as perfectly balanced, their shared cut and near identical dimensions giving a cohesive, mirror like quality that is rare in matched pairs.

When you hold these sapphires you can feel a lineage, a passage from Sri Lankan rivers to the hands of master cutters, and finally to the setting you choose. The Natural Sapphire Company is proud to present them as unheated, natural Ceylon sapphires offered with full disclosure of their origin and treatment status. Their medium color intensity and transparent clarity make them versatile for many designs, from refined everyday studs to a statement piece that carries history and light. If you imagine them set in warm yellow gold, the color leans toward a softer, vintage blue, and if you imagine them in platinum, the tone reads as cool and pure. These stones are an invitation to a setting that honors their story, and we would be pleased to advise on bespoke options that enhance their natural strengths while celebrating the artisan journey that brought them to life.
