This pear shape yellow sapphire presented by The Natural Sapphire Company weighs 0.97 carat and measures 7.98 by 4.85 by 3.23 mm, a proportion that balances table surface and pavilion depth for optimal light return. The cutting style is faceted, executed as a mixed brilliant cut, with a precision crown of star and kite facets blending into a faceted pavilion whose lower main facets are calibrated to reduce light leakage. The mixed brilliant geometry was chosen to control scintillation while preserving the gem core color, the result of careful facet orientation and symmetry control. Clarity is graded very very slightly included evaluated at eye level, with inclusions minimized during cutting orientation to sit discreetly near facet junctions, and the polish is excellent across all facet planes, producing crisp facet junctions and high surface reflectivity. Color intensity is classified as intense, a vivid yellow hue with uniform saturation that the cutter sought to preserve by moderating pavilion angles to avoid over deepening or diluting the tone. Enhancement is heat treated, a standard and stable procedure applied to improve color uniformity and internal clarity, and origin is Ceylon Sri Lanka, a source renowned for corundum of fine hue and strong optical character.
The narrative of formation spans millions of years, beginning deep within high grade metamorphic terranes where aluminum rich protoliths underwent metamorphism under elevated temperature and pressure conditions. Within these amphibolite to granulite facies environments, aluminum and oxygen recombined to form corundum crystals, their lattice incorporating trace amounts of iron during crystallization, the iron species establishing the yellow chromophore through subtle electronic transitions. Later tectonic uplift and prolonged weathering liberated these corundum crystals from their host matrix, concentrating them in placer gravels where natural tumbling smoothed crystal terminations. The crystal that became this pear shape was selected for its transparency and color, then oriented and cut to exploit its internal optical axes, heat treated to stabilize and intensify the yellow tone, and finally polished to an exacting finish by lapidaries at The Natural Sapphire Company. The resulting gem displays a controlled interaction of light and color, a technical achievement rooted in geological time and precise human craftsmanship.
