This matched pair of pink star sapphires from Burma, offered by The Natural Sapphire Company, weigh 2.17 carats and 1.83 carats, and present as oval cabochons with dimensions 7.88 x 6.01 x 4.37 mm and 7.74 x 5.77 x 3.75 mm. Both stones are semi translucent with medium color intensity, and carry a clarity grade of very slightly included, evaluated at eye level, with inclusions that manifest as fine silk responsible for asterism. The cabochon cut is deliberately domed, optimized for star projection, and the polish is excellent, producing high surface luster and clean star observation with minimal surface blemish. No enhancement has been performed, preserving natural color and silk distribution, and the parcel is documented to originate from Burma, Myanmar.
From a lapidary perspective the proportions indicate careful cutting to balance face up color with star sharpness, the length to width ratios are approximately 1.31 and 1.34, and the dome heights have been controlled to yield pronounced asterism without sacrificing overall transparency. The rutile silk inclusions are aligned along the corundum c axis, producing a six rayed star that centers well under a single overhead point light, and the slight differences in dome height account for marginal variations in star intensity between the two stones. The optical behavior is consistent with corundum, with a refractive index around 1.76 to 1.77 and a hardness of 9 on the Mohs scale, properties that support everyday wear when set appropriately. For mounting we recommend settings that permit controlled light entry to the base of the cabochon, such as open back bezels or low basket prongs, to preserve three dimensionality of the star and to maximize light return. We advise examination under both daylight and point source illumination to appreciate the interplay of body color and asterism, and the combination of Burmese origin, natural silk induced star, and absence of treatment makes this pair a technically significant and collectible offering from The Natural Sapphire Company.
