Product description

This gemstone is a transparent brownish green sapphire weighing 2.65 carats, presented in a precise emerald cut with faceted execution, and measuring 8.61 x 6.45 x 4.72 millimeters. The specimen exhibits medium color intensity, a clarity grade described as very slightly included when evaluated at eye level, and an excellent polish. There has been no enhancement applied to this stone, and it is documented as originating from Ceylon Sri Lanka. The combination of the emerald cut and the high quality polish allows for clear, broad facet planes that emphasize the stone color and internal clarity, providing a refined, architectural appearance rather than a surface dominated by intense scintillation.

Optically this sapphire displays the characteristic vitreous luster and strong light return associated with corundum, whose refractive index is typically around 1.76 to 1.77, and whose dispersion is relatively low near 0.018. Those parameters mean that the stone favors satiny flashes of light and clear color transmission over the sharp, multi colored fire seen in high dispersion gems. The emerald cut accentuates these qualities, producing broad flashes and linear reflections across the table and step facets, which draws attention to the brownish green hue and to any internal features rather than to numerous small pinprick flashes. In practical terms the eye perceives a composed, elegant play of light, with color depth and facet clarity taking precedence over high sparkle. The excellent polish amplifies this effect, delivering crisp facet junctions and clean mirror like planes that enhance contrast, make the color read consistently across various viewing angles, and aid in the stone displaying an even and pleasant visual weight when set.

When compared with other gemstones commonly considered alongside sapphires, this stone’s reflective behavior is distinct and instructive. Compared with blue sapphires of vivid saturation cut in a brilliant style, this emerald cut brownish green sapphire will present less scintillation and less rapid sparkle, but greater consistency of tone and a more understated luminosity. Against spinel, which has a slightly lower refractive index and often a brisker, more lively appearance, this sapphire reads as more restrained and more focused on depth of color. Compared with tourmaline, which typically has a lower refractive index and can show a softer, less reflective surface appearance, the sapphire exhibits stronger light return and a firmer, cleaner facet reflection. In contrast to emerald cut diamonds or high dispersion gems, this sapphire produces minimal spectral fire due to corundum low dispersion, however the result is a sophisticated, monochromatic sheen that emphasizes hue and clarity rather than prismatic bursts. The stone’s natural unenhanced origin further contributes to a genuine, unmodified visual character, allowing collectors and designers to appreciate the true interaction between cut, color, and clarity without concerns about diffusion or heating artifacts.

From a practical and design perspective the stone benefits from the inherent durability of corundum, which rates high on wearability and maintains crisp facet definition over time, making it well suited to a variety of settings that favor clean lines and elegant presentation. The emerald cut shape is particularly effective for rings and pendants that aim to highlight color and clarity, and the measured dimensions offer a presence that balances wearability with visual impact. The Natural Sapphire Company presents this Ceylon origin sapphire as an example of how thoughtful cutting and natural material qualities come together to produce a refined gem that communicates its value through depth and poise rather than overt flash. For clients seeking a sapphire with controlled brilliance, consistent color delivery, and transparent origin and treatment history, this brownish green emerald cut stone is a compelling and durable choice.
