Long before a master cutter shaped this gem to catch the light, the pink sapphire at the heart of this ring was born in the rich, ancient soils of Ceylon, Sri Lanka, a place that has produced the world’s most celebrated sapphires for centuries. In a small mining community, skilled hands separated the rough crystal from the earth, and from that rough came a stone of rare clarity and intensity. This example is a transparent 2.53 carat pear shaped pink sapphire, measuring 11.26 by 7.49 by 4.07 millimeters, and cut in a mixed brilliant style to harmonize scintillation and depth. Its vivid color saturation is the signature of Ceylon material, while its clarity is graded very slightly included when evaluated at eye level, making it appear remarkably clean to the naked eye. Untreated and unenhanced, this sapphire carries the natural story of its origin without alteration, and each facet records a stage of transformation from geological time to wearable art, a journey we at The Natural Sapphire Company are proud to steward from mine to masterpiece.
The cutting and design process is the moment when nature’s color becomes language, and the pear shape was chosen to translate that vivid pink into a gesture that draws the eye. The mixed brilliant cut combines the fire of brilliant faceting with well placed step elements, so that every tilt of the hand reveals a new play of internal light. The pear silhouette tapers to a gentle point, and in set form becomes both focal point and narrative, guiding the gaze from the face of the stone down the finger. The ring’s setting elevates the sapphire on a discreet gallery, allowing light to enter from beneath and amplify the mixed brilliant facets, while the warm tones of 14K yellow gold enrich the pink, creating a glow that feels both radiant and intimate. The design intentionally uses negative space beneath the stone and elegant prong work to avoid obscuring the gem, so that the center remains the undisputed protagonist in every view.
To frame and emphasize the center stone, the ring is accented with white marquise and pear shaped natural diamonds, arranged like crystalline leaves or wings that naturally steer attention back to the sapphire. The marquise diamonds weigh approximately 0.50 carats in total, and the white pear shaped diamonds are approximately 0.40 carats in total, each selected for a high standard of clarity and color, graded Very Slightly Included, VS1 and VS2, and color grade F. Their elongated profiles and brilliant facets create directional sparkle, a visual bridge from the band to the center, and their F color ensures a crisp, luminous contrast against the vivid pink. Set in balanced clusters on either shoulder, the diamonds act as a refined frame, their shapes mirroring the central pear to create a cohesive silhouette that guides the eye inward while adding a luxurious, floral sensibility to the overall composition. Every diamond and placement was considered to amplify the sapphire’s presence without overwhelming it, making the design an exercise in elegant restraint.
From the first appraisal of the rough to the final polish on the ring’s shoulders, skilled artisans shaped metal and stone with a mixture of traditional techniques and modern precision. The 14K yellow gold band is hand finished to a mirror polish, providing a warm backdrop that complements the gemstone palette, and the prongs are calibrated to secure the sapphire while remaining visually light. At The Natural Sapphire Company we take responsibility for provenance and craftsmanship, offering this ring as a story you can wear, a stone with clear origins from Ceylon and no enhancements, set with responsibly sourced diamonds, and crafted into a form that celebrates the sapphire as the central voice. For those who cherish provenance and beauty in equal measure, this ring is an invitation to connect with a gem whose journey from earth to hand is preserved in every facet, a piece designed to draw attention, to inspire conversation, and to be treasured for generations.
