From the moment this sapphire began its long journey beneath the ancient soils of Ceylon, now Sri Lanka, it carried within it the patient work of earth and time. Deep in gem bearing gravels and weathered rock, trace elements and heat sculpted a crystalline heart, and slowly a delicate pinkness emerged. Local miners, many from small scale family operations, carefully recovered the rough stones by hand, honoring techniques passed down through generations. In our close working relationships with those communities we know the miners and the stewards of the land, we visit the pits and riverbeds, and we work to ensure that extraction practices respect both people and place. This pink sapphire, weighing 3.58 carats, was identified early for its clarity and hue, and set aside for careful cutting and finishing, a decision that began in the mine and guided every step that followed.
The rough traveled from the mine to our cutters, where the decision to fashion an asscher octagon was made to reveal the gem true, elegant facets. With exacting care the cutter shaped the stone to dimensions of 8.67 by 7.71 by 5.37 millimeters, creating the stepped facets and clipped corners that define the asscher cut. The result is a stone that reads transparent and luminous, a light color saturation that whispers pink rather than shouts, and a clarity graded as slightly included when viewed at eye level, which offers character without distracting from brilliance. An excellent polish on the pavilion and crown lets light enter and return with a calm, mirror like flash, and the geometry of the asscher faces gives the sapphire a vintage inspired presence while remaining modern in its clarity and balance. The subtle inclusions and the soft pastel tone give the gem personality, a fingerprint of natural origin that makes each viewing intimate and singular.
Surrounding this Ceylon sapphire are natural white round diamonds totaling approximately 0.30 carats, selected for their bright F and G color and their VS clarity. These diamonds were chosen to complement the sapphire without competing, they sit in a finely crafted 14K white gold setting that enhances the coolness of the white facets and the warm whisper of pink. The ring features a refined four prong crown that holds the asscher securely while allowing light to travel through the pavilion, and a pavé band of diamonds that lends a gentle sparkle to the finger. Every element of the mounting was considered to balance proportion and wearability, the shank shaped for comfort, the prongs swept in to protect the corners of the octagon, and the pavé set to resist snagging while reflecting light back into the center stone. The white gold offers a durable and elegant frame that will age graciously, and because the metal and accent diamonds were sourced with the same attention to ethical practice, the whole piece reads as a considered, responsible creation.
At The Natural Sapphire Company we tell the story of each gem because provenance matters as much as beauty. We are committed to ethical sourcing, we work directly with miners and local partners in Sri Lanka to encourage fair labor and responsible extraction, we support efforts to rehabilitate mined land and to improve community wellbeing. The origin of this sapphire is Ceylon, Sri Lanka, and we document that origin as part of our traceability practices, we avoid supply chains that cannot be verified, and we seek partners who share our respect for the environment and for people. When you choose this ring you take home not just a 3.58 carat asscher cut pink sapphire set in 14K white gold with 0.30 carats of white diamonds, clarity VS, color F and G, you also carry a connection to the miners and artisans whose skill and care brought it to life. For care, avoid harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaning, clean gently with warm soapy water and a soft brush, and have the setting inspected periodically to maintain secure mounting and lasting beauty. If you would like more detail about the stone, its origin, or the communities involved in bringing it to market, please contact us, we are proud to share the full story and to guide you in choosing a gem that reflects both natural wonder and ethical intent.
