From the moment the rough crystal was first coaxed from the soils of Ceylon in Sri Lanka, this sapphire began a journey that bridges ancient earth and modern artistry. The alluvial beds and pegmatite veins that have produced the most treasured sapphires in history yielded material that spoke of depth and life. Local hands guided the initial selection, choosing a stone for its transparent core and its unusual bluish green voice of color. At The Natural Sapphire Company we honor that provenance, and we trace each facet of this gemstone back to its origin, so every angle tells the story of a distant landscape and the generations of skill that brought it to light.
In the hands of a master cutter the rough was transformed, shaped by a vision that sought to reveal clarity and color without compromise. The result is an asscher octagon shape sapphire, weighing 3.05 carats, measuring 7.38 by 7.26 by 5.84 millimeters, cut with asscher faceting that emphasizes symmetry and depth. The asscher cut is a study in precision, with step facets that descend from a broad table through a finely balanced crown and pavilion. Each facet plane was aligned to exacting angles so that light is guided inward and then returned as a rich field of tone and internal fire. The sapphire is eye clean when evaluated at eye level, and it displays vivid color saturation with an excellent polish that allows each facet junction to read as a crisp, reflective edge. The stone has been gently heat treated, as is common for material from this region, to stabilize and enhance its color, while the cutting preserved its natural life and character.
Flanking the central sapphire, two white trapezoid shaped natural diamonds sit as thoughtful companions, together weighing approximately 0.30 carats. These side stones are selected for their clarity grades of Very Slightly Included VS1 and VS2, and for their color grade of F, chosen to provide a crisp and luminous contrast to the bluish green center. The trapezoid form was chosen for its ability to echo the asscher geometry, mirroring straight lines and step facets in a way that reinforces symmetry and directional light flow. The diamonds were cut and matched so their tables and facets align visually with the central piece, creating a cohesive interplay of reflections. The entire composition is set in 18K yellow gold, a warm metal choice that deepens the green tones and offers a classic frame for the precision of the stones. The setting was drawn and finished to support the geometry, with prongs positioned to secure each corner while allowing the maximum face up area to shine.
When you bring this ring into the light you witness the culmination of many skilled hands and careful decisions, from mine to master cutter to jeweler and polisher. The asscher faceting imparts a hall of mirrors effect that rewards close inspection, revealing crisp step lines, a central plane of depth, and a controlled scintillation that moves with your hand. The excellent polish ensures that each facet edge is sharp and clean, so that the geometry reads with clarity and the sapphire speaks with its full voice. At The Natural Sapphire Company we stand behind not only the beauty but the provenance and craftsmanship of this piece. For those who seek a ring that tells a story in every angle, that honors origin and precision in equal measure, this ring is a rare conversation between land and craft, captured in gold and facet.
