Product description

This cushion shape bi color sapphire weighs 1.04 carat and measures 6.37 x 5.50 x 3.11 mm, a proportion set that balances face up presence with optimized pavilion depth for strong return of light. The cutter selected a mixed brilliant cut, employing a brilliant facet scheme on the crown coupled with a modified pavilion architecture, to enhance both scintillation and color saturation. The mixed brilliant design produces a lively interplay of small pinpoint flashes and broader flashes of color, the result of precise facet junctions and an excellent polish across crown and pavilion facets. Clarity is graded as very slightly included when evaluated at eye level, which means the stone presents with minimal visible inclusions that do not disrupt its overall transparency, and which in many cases serve to further accentuate internal reflections rather than detract from them. The intense color intensity is immediately apparent, with a deep, even saturation in the blue range together with distinct violet to purple zoning that gives the gem its bi color appeal, and the cut and polish have been executed to maximize color concentration while preserving strong light return and table brilliance.

This sapphire has been heat treated, a well established and controlled enhancement that stabilizes and intensifies the natural color, reduces silk and improves overall clarity, while preserving the gemological characteristics that allow for confident origin identification. The origin of this stone is Madagascar, a source that has become synonymous with saturated, well formed sapphires produced in both alluvial and primary deposits, where high grade material is recovered from weathered metamorphic host rocks and basaltic environments. Madagascar sapphires frequently exhibit robust color saturation and clean crystal development, and the trace element chemistry typical of Malagasy deposits often yields vivid blue to violet hues when iron and titanium are present, with localized concentrations of other trace elements producing the purple component observed in this bi color example. Provenance from Madagascar adds value in the marketplace because it links the gem to a modern supply chain with documented geological conditions and mining localities, a reputation for producing collectible specimens, and a relative scarcity of high quality, finely cut bi color material compared with more common single tone stones.

From a setting and design perspective, this gem rewards careful mounting choices that emphasize its color shift and table orientation, because the bi color nature is most striking when the stone is allowed to present both color faces to the viewer. A low profile open gallery setting or a well ventilated bezel with a thin rim will allow maximum light flow through the pavilion and show the dynamic transition between blue and violet when the piece moves, while a halo arrangement with small white diamonds will provide contrast to increase perceived saturation without overwhelming the stone. Because the mixed brilliant faceting produces strong crown brilliance and scintillation, prong settings that expose the crown will heighten the stone s sparkle. The dimensions and carat weight make the sapphire ideal as a center stone for both a refined ring and a pendant, and the very slightly included clarity grade supports faceting choices that favor light performance over aggressive concealment. At The Natural Sapphire Company we recognize the importance of origin, cut, and treatment when evaluating investment and design potential, and this Malagasy bi color cushion sapphire represents a combination of geological provenance, careful lapidary craftsmanship, and practical durability following proper heat treatment, qualities that discerning buyers appreciate for both personal jewelry and curated collections.
