Product description

This sapphire is a transparent, emerald-cut bluish green gem weighing 3.00 carats, with exact dimensions of 8.76 by 7.51 by 5.04 millimeters. The stone exhibits a dark color intensity within the bluish green range, a hue that reads deeper and more saturated under stronger light and shows cooler blue undertones in diffuse illumination. Clarity has been evaluated at eye level as very slightly included, indicating minor internal characteristics that do not detract from the overall transparency or visual impact when set. The pavilion and step-cut crown have been brought to an excellent polish, producing crisp facet junctions and clean reflections across the broad table typical of the emerald cut. Origin is Madagascar, and the sapphire has been heat treated, a standard and stable enhancement used to refine color and improve apparent clarity in corundum without altering the fundamental nature of the material.

The emerald cut, with its large table and parallel step facets, is well suited to a stone of this weight and proportions. The cut emphasizes color saturation and clarity rather than scintillation, so the gem’s dark, concentrated bluish green is presented with an even, architectural appearance rather than a brilliant, faceted sparkle. At 8.76 by 7.51 millimeters the stone occupies a footprint that balances presence with wearability for many ring and pendant designs. The 5.04 millimeter depth contributes to the perceived color depth, and the stone’s very slightly included clarity grade at eye level ensures the emerald cut’s broad facets remain visually clean, allowing the excellent polish to create precise light returns along the step facets and bezel facets of the crown and pavilion.

Sapphires have a long heritage of being used in ceremonial, protective, and personal jewelry across cultures, and this piece follows that lineage while reflecting contemporary sourcing. Historically prized by royalty, clergy, and the learned for their perceived association with wisdom, protection, and fidelity, sapphires were cut into signet forms and set into rings, brooches, and reliquaries to convey status and spiritual meaning. Bluish green tones have been particularly associated with maritime and botanical symbolism in certain traditions, evoking sea and foliage and often chosen to suggest balance and calm. Madagascar today is recognized for producing a broad spectrum of gem-quality corundum, and this sapphire exemplifies the island’s contribution to the modern gem trade: distinct color personality, fine cutting potential, and consistent material integrity. The Natural Sapphire Company sources and documents such gems in keeping with this historical continuity, providing material that can be incorporated into contemporary jewelry while honoring traditional uses.

From a practical and design perspective, this 3.00 carat emerald-cut sapphire is suitable for a variety of settings, with particular advantage in designs that showcase the stone’s planar geometry. Four-prong settings with protective corner prongs or a partial bezel are commonly used to retain the stepped pavilion and protect the corners of the emerald cut. Metal choices alter the perceived color weight: platinum and white gold will emphasize the cooler blue facets and present a crisper, more formal aesthetic, while yellow or rose gold can introduce warm contrast that softens the stone’s dark tone and highlights green undertones. Sapphires rank a nine on the Mohs hardness scale and are well suited to daily wear when properly set, although care should be taken to avoid mechanical shock and prolonged exposure to harsh chemicals. Heat treatment is a stable and widely accepted enhancement for sapphire, and it does not impose special handling restrictions beyond normal jewelry care. Documentation of origin, weight, dimensions, clarity, cut, and treatment is available through The Natural Sapphire Company, and we recommend maintaining such documentation for insurance and appraisal purposes.
