From the moment this blue sapphire first formed deep within the ancient soils of Ceylon Sri Lanka, it began a long and patient journey that only nature could design. Miners working traditional deposits found rough crystal that carried a deep promise, a hint of the intense blue that would reveal itself under careful hands. At The Natural Sapphire Company we follow that journey closely, selecting material for its honesty and character. This particular stone weighs 1.49 carat and is transparent, its oval shape measuring 6.92 by 4.88 by 4.74 mm. The cutter chose a mixed brilliant cut to preserve weight and maximize fire, producing a balance of scintillation and depth. Evaluated at eye level the clarity is very slightly included, a mark of natural origin that does not distract from its presence. With intense color intensity and an excellent polish, and with no enhancement, the gem retains an authentic Ceylon voice that speaks of tropical rains and ancient geology.
After extraction the rough traveled to skilled lapidaries who coaxed out the best of its potential. Each facet was planned to honor the stone rather than force it into a uniform standard. The pavilion and crown work together to create flashes of cornflower and royal blue when the light moves, while the mixed brilliant cut preserves a lively return of light that flatters in both daylight and lamplight. Our cutters inspected the stone under multiple lighting angles and graded polish and symmetry to ensure the excellent finish that you can see. At The Natural Sapphire Company we document the origin and the fact that no enhancement was applied, so you receive a gem that is a truthful expression of Ceylon Sri Lanka. When set into a ring pendant or bespoke piece, this 1.49 carat oval will carry its backstory from the mine to your hand, offering a connection to place and craft. If you would like guidance on settings that complement its intense blue and mixed brilliant cut, I am happy to recommend designs that protect its dimensions and show off its natural beauty.
