Product description

This pear shape purplish blue sapphire weighs 0.90 carat, and measures 6.93 x 4.18 x 4.10 millimeters, and it is presented by The Natural Sapphire Company. The stone is transparent, and displays an intense color intensity that sits between deep medium and strong, providing a vivid visual presence without appearing overly dark. The cut is a mixed brilliant design executed on a pear outline, and the stone has an excellent polish that maximizes surface luster. The clarity grade is slightly included when evaluated at eye level, and the absence of any enhancement confirms that the color and internal features are wholly natural. Origin is Tanzania, and the ensemble of weight, proportions, and untreated material makes this sapphire a technically refined and naturally authentic gem.

The mixed brilliant faceting scheme is the primary driver of the sapphires exceptional sparkle. The cutter combined a crown pattern that uses modified brilliant facets with a pavilion that blends brilliant and slightly elongated facets, a configuration that increases the number of internal reflections while preserving strong color return. Table to depth ratio and pavilion depth have been balanced to minimize light leakage, and careful crown angle selection promotes bright return from the top while maintaining scintillation across movement. The result is a dynamic interplay of brilliance and contrast, with bright flashes originating from the crown facets, and deeper blue and violet flashes born from the pavilion reflections. Corundum has a refractive index approximately 1.762 to 1.770, and a low but measurable birefringence near 0.008 to 0.010, and those optical constants are exploited by the mixed brilliant layout to create lively facet to facet return without excessive doubling. Crisp facet junctions and consistent facet geometry ensure that light paths are predictable, which is a fundamental element in producing the kind of sparkle that appears both immediate and nuanced.

Color and internal structure are equally important to the visual signature of this gem. The purplish blue hue exhibits balanced saturation, and the stone shows subtle pleochroism that presents slightly different color tones when viewed from the table as opposed to along the girdle. The cutter oriented the pavilion and crown to favor the most desirable face up hue, a decision informed by variation in color zoning that is often present in Tanzanian sapphires. Slight inclusions visible at eye level are natural and consistent with an untreated material, and these inclusions are small enough in position and form that they do not materially disrupt the path of light across the majority of critical facets. In some cases minute internal features can act as secondary scattering centers, adding a micro scintillation that complements primary facet reflections. The excellent polish eliminates surface diffusion, so every facet edge contributes cleanly to luster rather than softening highlights through abrasion or polish haze.

Craftsmanship details distinguish a technically superior sapphire, and this gem demonstrates several of those hallmarks. Symmetry across the pear outline is controlled to ensure the point and rounded end sit in correct alignment with the pavilion axis, and the girdle thickness is consistent to facilitate secure, low stress setting without introducing unnecessary light leakage. The pavilion facet count and arrangement were chosen to enhance contrast patterning, creating a rhythmic alternation of bright and dark zones that animate the stone when it moves. The crown faceting minimizes the table area relative to overall face up size, a choice that concentrates brilliance and preserves perceived color saturation, while the near absence of a large culet maintains uninterrupted central reflections. The result is a sapphire that delivers intense color, lively scintillation, and a structured brilliance that reads as unmatched when compared to stones cut without this level of proportional and optical control. The Natural Sapphire Company stands behind this sapphire as an untreated, Tanzanian origin gem, and for clients who require a piece with both rigorous optical performance and documented natural provenance, this stone is an exemplary candidate.
