Product description

This transparent oval blue sapphire weighs 0.74 carat and measures 5.78 x 4.66 x 3.01 mm, it is cut in an elegant mixed brilliant cut, it is graded as very slightly included when evaluated at eye level, it presents intense color intensity and an excellent polish, it is untreated, and it originates from Tanzania. The Natural Sapphire Company selected this stone for its combination of optical purity and strong natural saturation, qualities that begin at the atomic scale. Sapphire is a gem quality variety of corundum, a crystalline form of aluminum oxide with a dense trigonal lattice. That crystal framework produces a refractive index that is high relative to many common gem materials, and the resulting ability to bend and retain light is foundational to the gem s apparent brilliance. The crystal symmetry and bonding also support a hardness of 9 on the Mohs scale, which preserves crisp facet junctions and allows a cutter to produce precise facet planes that reflect and transmit light cleanly, a property that becomes especially important when the stone is transparent and retains intense color without any added treatments.

The mixed brilliant cut used on this oval sapphire amplifies the stone s innate optical advantages. A mixed brilliant employs a brilliant facet arrangement on the crown to maximize return of incident light toward the viewer, while the pavilion uses facets configured to control light leakage and to produce layered internal reflections. In this sapphire the crown facets act as portals that collect light across the surface, and the pavilion facets then redirect that light back through the table and crown facets in multiple discrete flashes. The result is a balance of broad face up brilliance and lively scintillation along the girdle, the oval outline further concentrating perceived color by concentrating blue saturation along its longer axis. The excellent polish ensures facet surfaces are free from micro abrasion, which would otherwise scatter light and dull the stone. The very slightly included clarity grade indicates that any internal features are minor and do not materially obstruct the primary light paths, so the pathways that produce intense flashes of blue remain uninterrupted. Additionally sapphire often displays pleochroism, and in this example the combination of transparency, facet geometry, and intense color intensity allows subtle shifts between deep cornflower and slightly violet adjusted tones as the gem is rotated, adding a dynamic quality to the sparkle.

Taken together the intrinsic properties of corundum, the precision of the mixed brilliant design, and the careful execution of cut and polish create a sparkle that is distinct from many other gem materials. The high refractive power of sapphire concentrates and returns light with a firmness that reads as clarity and depth, while the facet architecture of a mixed brilliant cut translates that optical energy into both broad luminous areas and sharp pinpoint flashes. Because this sapphire has not been subjected to enhancement, its saturation and internal features are natural, and the interplay between natural color zones and facet reflections produces a liveliness that is immediately visible in hand and on the finger. The stone s dimensions and weight make it well suited to a variety of fine jewelry settings, where the oval form presents an elegant visual footprint and the intense blue remains the dominant perception. For clients who value geological authenticity and optical performance, this Tanzanian sapphire exemplifies how mineral structure and human craftsmanship combine to yield a gem whose sparkle is technically grounded and visually compelling, and The Natural Sapphire Company presents it as an example of unenhanced material with exceptional facet precision and enduring optical appeal.
