This transparent 0.57 carat bluish green sapphire from Madagascar measures 6.06 x 3.81 x 2.52 mm, and is precisely fashioned in an emerald cut to emphasize the stone's color and internal geometry. The emerald cut employs broad step facets on the crown and pavilion that create large, parallel flashes of color rather than scintillation, and in this example the step faceting presents the intense color intensity as broad zones of blue and green. The cutter prioritized table size and pavilion angle to balance weight retention with optical return, and the excellent polish produces mirror like facet planes that enhance contrast between the step facets. Clarity is graded slightly included at eye level, which means minor natural inclusions are present but positioned and oriented to minimize impact on face up appearance, and the overall transparency allows for consistent light transmission through the lengthwise facets. The outcome is a gem that reads as richly intense in color, with controlled pleochroic behavior that reveals more blue in certain orientations and more green in others, creating dynamic appearance under different lighting and viewing angles.
The geological narrative of this sapphire began millions of years ago in the high energy metamorphic terrains of Madagascar, where aluminum rich protoliths were subjected to elevated temperatures and pressures that favored growth of corundum crystals. Trace concentrations of iron and titanium became incorporated into the corundum lattice during slow crystal growth, producing absorption bands that yield the bluish green hue. Over geological time the host rocks were uplifted and eroded, liberating gem quality crystals that collected in secondary alluvial deposits, where local miners recovered rough material. At the lapidary stage controlled heat treatment was applied to stabilize and enhance the blue green tones, and to reduce the visibility of silk and other growth related inclusions, while preserving the natural zoning and crystal character that gives the gem its unique personality. The Natural Sapphire Company presents this sapphire with documented origin and treatment disclosure, and with cutting choices that celebrate the stone's geological history and optical virtues, offering a specimen that combines precise craftsmanship with a clear provenance.
