Product description

This 0.50 carat round bluish green sapphire from Madagascar, offered by The Natural Sapphire Company, presents a compact yet technically refined gem profile. The stone measures 4.44 x 4.45 x 3.25 mm, giving an average diameter of 4.445 mm and a depth proportion of approximately 73 percent. This depth is notable for a round mixed brilliant, it drives color saturation and alters light return compared with a more shallow round. The color is described as medium intense, a balanced saturation that preserves both vibrancy and transparency. Heat treatment has been applied to stabilize and enhance the hue, a common and fully disclosed enhancement that improves tonal uniformity without compromising hardness or long term stability. Clarity is graded as very slightly included at eye level, a grade that indicates minor natural internal features which do not detract from the gem and in many settings remain inconspicuous.

The cutting style is a mixed brilliant, executed to emphasize a lively crown scintillation and controlled pavilion return. The crown maintains a classical brilliant facet arrangement to maximize small scale sparkle and dispersion, while the pavilion uses a modified schema that deepens light path length to intensify the bluish green appearance. With a depth near 73 percent the pavilion facets are proportioned to minimize light leakage through the girdle, instead redirecting wavelengths back through the crown facets. The excellent polish amplifies facet contrast, producing crisp facet junctions and well defined mirrors on both crown and pavilion. The girdle appears consistent for its size, and the culet is small to closed, preserving a continuous visual plane when viewed through the table.

Under varied lighting conditions this sapphire will present a range of optical behaviors. In noon daylight with a high color temperature it will read slightly cooler, emphasizing the blue component and rendering a leaner teal to bluish green, with increased fire and crisp white facet reflections. Under standard warm incandescent light the stone will shift toward the green axis, producing a warmer teal with softer white flash and enhanced body color, because the deeper pavilion path favors absorption bands that emphasize the green wavelengths. In LED and mixed artificial light environments the mixed facet layout produces lively contrast, with brisk scintillation from the crown and saturated body color from the pavilion. In low light or candlelight the gem will tend to show more of its depth and hue intensity, appearing darker and more velvety while still offering pinpoint flashes where light meets the facet junctions. The very slightly included clarity and excellent polish ensure that inclusions do not interrupt these lighting effects at typical viewing distances.

From a design and setting perspective this sapphire is highly versatile. The medium intense bluish green is well suited to both white and yellow precious metals, 18 karat yellow gold will warm the green notes, whereas platinum and white gold will preserve a cooler blue emphasis, and mechanical bezel or half bezel settings will also moderate the perceived depth when viewed in profile. The gem responds well to solitaires and three stone layouts because its mixed brilliant cut balances scintillation and color saturation, while the depth proportion will make the gem read slightly smaller in face up diameter but richer in tone. The documented origin, Madagascar, is consistent with the complex pleochroic behavior observed, and the disclosed heat treatment is stable and industry standard. For clients who appreciate the technical interplay of proportions, faceting, and light performance, this 0.50 carat round mixed brilliant bluish green sapphire from The Natural Sapphire Company offers a study in controlled saturation, refined polish, and reliable visual performance across lighting environments.
