Product description

This pear shape blue sapphire is a precisely measured 0.38 carat, with dimensions of 5.91 by 3.88 by 2.35 millimeters, and a length to width ratio of approximately 1.52 to 1. The cutter employed a mixed brilliant style, combining a brilliant facet pattern on the crown with complementary pavilion geometry that optimizes both scintillation and depth of color. The stone exhibits a depth of approximately 48 percent, a proportion that balances light return with color saturation for a vivid visual impact. Clarity has been evaluated at very very slightly included at eye level, which means that inclusions are minute and do not materially interrupt the clean transmission of light through the faceting. The polish is graded excellent, with crisp facet junctions and smooth facet planes that enhance mirror like reflections. Origin is Madagascar, a source known for sapphires with vibrant blue to violet blue hues, and the gem has been heat treated, a stable and widely accepted enhancement that intensifies color and improves clarity while maintaining the natural crystal structure.

From a faceting and optical performance perspective, the mixed brilliant approach on this pear form was executed to accentuate both brilliance and color concentration. The crown shows well proportioned kite and star facets which create quick flashes of white light, while the pavilion facets are arranged to channel deeper blue and violet tones into the gem body, producing a lively interplay between sparkle and color. The moderately sized table aperture preserves face up color saturation while allowing controlled light leakage, and the pavilion depth contributes to a sense of three dimensional color depth when the stone is examined under varied lighting. The result is a sapphire that displays vivid color intensity with excellent contrast between highlight and shadow areas. Facet symmetry and polish quality reduce light leakage at facet junctions, so the gem maintains strong return across the table and crown facets, even at the smaller 0.38 carat weight.

When set in jewelry this vivid blue sapphire complements a wide range of skin tones through principles of color temperature and contrast. On cool undertones, such as fair complexions with pink or bluish undertones, the stone's saturated blue and subtle violet modulation reads as harmonious and luminous, reinforcing the cool aspect and producing a clear, crisp presence on the finger or pendant. For warm undertones, including golden or peachy complexions, the same vivid blue provides pleasing complementary contrast, appearing more intense against the warmer background and creating a striking focal point. On medium and olive skin tones the gem achieves visual balance, the vivid saturation integrating with neutral undertones to present a rich, regal blue that neither overwhelms nor recedes. For deeper skin tones the intensity reads as bold and jewel like, with the vivid blue maintaining excellent legibility even in lower light. Metal selection further refines the interaction with skin tones, white metals such as platinum or white gold accentuate the stone's cool aspect and emphasize brilliance, while yellow and rose gold warm the overall effect and subtly shift perceived color toward a richer, more classical look.

From a design and care standpoint this sapphire offers versatility and longevity. The pear shape is ideal for both solitaire and halo frameworks, and the mixed brilliant cutting style benefits prong settings that allow maximum crown exposure while protecting the pointed tip with a secure bezel or V style prong. The very very slightly included clarity allows confident use in rings and pendants without concern for surface reaching flaws, and the excellent polish supports high end settings where facet crispness matters. Because the gem has been heat treated, it is stable for normal wear and standard jewelry maintenance. Gentle cleaning with warm soapy water and a soft brush is appropriate, avoiding harsh chemicals or extreme thermal shock. The Natural Sapphire Company stands behind the craftsmanship and origin documentation for this Madagascar sapphire, and our bench jewelers can recommend prong profiles, bezel depths, and metal choices that maintain optical performance while ensuring practical durability. This stone is a technically sophisticated choice for a discerning buyer seeking precise proportions, vivid color intensity, and the flexible aesthetic potential to flatter many skin tones.
