Product description

This pair of round blue sapphires from Madagascar presents a carefully considered combination of weight, dimension and cut, suitable for a matched set in precision jewellery. The stones weigh 1.75 carats and 1.95 carats respectively, with measured dimensions of 7.63 by 7.48 by 3.57 millimeters, and 7.68 by 7.56 by 3.88 millimeters. Both have been fashioned in a mixed brilliant cut, which uses a brilliant style crown to maximize face up brilliance and scintillation, combined with a modified pavilion arrangement to deepen color and improve light return in larger table configurations. Using the mean diameters to evaluate depth, the stones present approximate depths of forty seven point three percent and fifty point nine percent, proportions that indicate a deliberate cutter strategy to balance face up spread and color saturation between the two pieces. The excellent polish and precise facet junctions reduce surface diffusion and windowing, so that the vivid color intensity specified for both sapphires reads uniformly under typical daylight and jewellery display lighting. Heat treatment has been applied to stabilize and enhance the blue saturation, and disclosure of that enhancement accompanies the pair, consistent with The Natural Sapphire Company commitment to full transparency.

Clarity has been graded as very slightly included, evaluated at eye level for both stones, and that grading is central to why this pair constitutes a superior match. At the face up view minute internal features are present, but they are low contrast, well positioned and do not interrupt the overall transparency or the even distribution of color. The similar clarity grade means that both gems exhibit comparable light transmission and minimal internal obstruction to facet reflections, which is crucial when two stones are presented as a matched pair for earrings or a dual stone setting. Colorwise both sapphires display vivid blue intensity, with excellent saturation and relatively neutral tone that avoids excessive darkness while preserving depth. The hue is consistent from stone to stone with only minor variation in tone attributable to the slightly different pavilion depths, the shallower stone offering a fractionally brighter face up appearance and the deeper stone yielding a marginally richer blue under stronger light. Such balance is desirable, because it permits the pair to appear harmonious on the finger or ear, with the cutter compensating for weight difference by adjusting pavilion depth and facet angles to achieve a unified visual outcome.

From a craftsmanship perspective the mixed brilliant faceting pattern and the excellent polish are the technical features that deliver matched optical performance. The crown facet geometry in each sapphire has been cut to similar symmetry, which aligns table size and star facet orientation, producing matched scintillation frequencies when the pair is set side by side. The pavilion shaping in a mixed brilliant design deliberately alters the optical path length, which is why one stone reads a touch deeper and the other a touch livelier, yet both remain within the vivid color intensity band. This intentional disparity is a mark of skilled lapidary work, where small adjustments in depth and pavilion angle are used to reconcile weight differences while preserving face up diameter and hue uniformity. For optimal presentation in jewellery, open backed settings or four prong mounts in platinum or 18 karat gold will maximize light interaction and showcase the vivid color and clean face up appearance, while closed back settings can be used when a slightly darker, more saturated presentation is desired. These stones are supplied with full origin and treatment disclosure, and represent a technically matched pair that is ready for bespoke setting by experienced jewellers, available for consideration through The Natural Sapphire Company.
