Product description

This matched pair from The Natural Sapphire Company comprises a 0.53 carat and a 0.67 carat round blue sapphire, presented with precise metrology and faceting optimized for Australian and international jewellery standards. The smaller stone measures 4.96 x 4.97 x 2.97 mm, the larger measures 5.08 x 5.07 x 3.42 mm, producing depth proportions of approximately 60 percent and 67 percent respectively, dimensions that materially influence apparent color saturation and light return. Both stones are executed in a mixed brilliant cut, employing a brilliant style crown to maximize scintillation, paired with a modified pavilion geometry that concentrates the blue chroma. This mixed approach balances white light return with internal color concentration, yielding lively table brilliance without sacrificing the intense color intensity that characterizes their Ceylon origin. Clarity is graded as very very slightly included, evaluated at eye level, which in practice allows excellent light passage and minimal visible inclusions under normal viewing conditions, and the polish across crowns, tables and pavilion facets is graded excellent, producing crisp facet reflections and strong contrast definition across the paired surfaces. Heat treatment has been applied as a stable enhancement to enrich hue and reduce cryptic silk, this treatment is fully disclosed and standard practice for sapphires from the region.

From a lapidary and matching perspective, attention to facet junction sharpness, pavilion symmetry and girdle consistency underpins the pairing quality. The cutter maintained consistent crown angles and table diameter to align face up size and appearance, while allowing slight variation in pavilion depth to achieve a harmonious pairing of tone and saturation given the natural rough geometry of each piece. The mixed brilliant cut in these examples uses acute crown angles to enhance scintillation, with the pavilion facet set tailored to reflect the blue wavelengths back through the table, a technique especially effective on Ceylon material which displays a lively and slightly violet biased blue in optimal proportions. Girdles are finished to a thin to medium thickness to facilitate secure setting without introducing light leakage, and facet junctions are carefully aligned to minimize windowing and to preserve strong star like reflections when the stones are rotated. When set as a pair in a two stone ring or matched earring configuration, the slightly deeper pavilion in the 0.67 carat stone will read as a richer, deeper blue face up, while the 0.53 carat stone will present a slightly brighter, more vivid face up appearance, a contrast that can be used intentionally by designers to create dynamic visual interplay.

The Natural Sapphire Company sources these gems from Ceylon Sri Lanka through an established ethical supply chain that prioritizes traceability, fair practice and environmental stewardship. Our procurement protocol includes direct relationships with vetted miners and cutting houses in Sri Lanka, documented chain of custody from mine to cutter to our inventory, and contractual requirements for fair wages and safe working conditions at every step. We require suppliers to adhere to local labor laws and industry best practice, we prohibit child labor and forced labor in all operations, and we work with on the ground partners to support community projects and basic remediation activities when extraction impacts local environments. For environmental protection we encourage low impact mining practices, progressive site rehabilitation and responsible water management, and we audit our sourcing partners on these criteria periodically. All gemstone enhancements are transparently disclosed at point of sale, and we can provide additional origin documentation and independent laboratory testing upon request to verify Ceylon origin and reported treatments. Finally we maintain compliance with applicable international responsible sourcing guidelines, and we welcome inquiries from technically focused buyers who require detailed reports, facet diagrams, or consultation on mounting and design to achieve the intended optical and color outcomes in finished jewellery.
