Product description

This pair of natural, transparent round blue sapphires offered by The Natural Sapphire Company present a well considered match in tone and craftsmanship, weighing 0.54 carats and 0.62 carats respectively. Each stone is cut in a mixed brilliant style, with dimensions of 4.96 by 4.98 by 2.74 mm for the 0.54 carat stone, and 4.98 by 4.92 by 3.00 mm for the 0.62 carat stone. The mixed brilliant configuration combines a brilliant facet arrangement on the crown with a modified pavilion geometry, an approach chosen to optimize face up color and light return while maintaining depth for saturation. The clarity grade is described as very slightly included evaluated at eye level, which means the inclusions do not materially interrupt the visual field and allow for strong color presentation. Color intensity is dark, with deep blue saturation that reads richly across the table and through the crown facets, and the polish is excellent, producing crisp facet junctions and clean facet reflections. Enhancement is heat treated, a stable and widely accepted process for blue sapphires, and the reported origin is Ceylon Sri Lanka, a source historically prized for quality corundum specimens.

From a lapidary and optical engineering perspective these sapphires demonstrate competent cutting proportions that favor wearable brilliance. The first stone presents an effective depth of approximately 55.1 percent when calculated from the average diameter and the total depth, and the second stone presents an effective depth of approximately 60.6 percent. Those depth ranges are deliberate for mixed brilliant rounds, the shallower example favoring table size and scintillation, the deeper example favoring color saturation and optical stability. The facet architecture uses medium sized crown facets to disperse light and provide scintillation, and a pavilion arrangement that reduces windowing while preserving return to the eye even in lower light. The mixed brilliant approach is beneficial for dark color intensity sapphires, because it allows greater control of internal light paths, concentrating color in the table area without producing excessive extinction. Excellent polishing quality enhances the contrast between dark blue body color and lighter facet flashes, and consistent symmetry across both stones facilitates pairing in matched stud settings or matched side stone applications.

Regarding durability these sapphires are robust for daily wear due to their mineralogical and mechanical properties. They are members of the corundum family and exhibit a hardness of 9 on the Mohs scale, second only to diamond in conventional jewelry contexts, which makes them highly resistant to surface scratching from ordinary contact. Corundum lacks true cleavage, and its crystalline toughness is sufficient to withstand daily knocks when set responsibly, making it an excellent choice for rings, earrings, pendants, and bracelets in everyday rotation. Heat treatment as an enhancement is stable and does not compromise structural integrity under normal conditions, though extreme thermal shock should still be avoided. For longevity in daily wear settings we recommend secure mountings such as four or six prong heads with well crafted gallery support, or protective bezel settings for pieces that will experience heavy abrasion. Routine care is straightforward, warm soapy water and gentle brushing will maintain surface luster, and periodic inspections by a qualified jeweler will ensure settings remain secure. These characteristics make this matched pair from The Natural Sapphire Company an ideal long lasting choice for customers seeking technical excellence, enduring performance, and the deep, classic blue associated with quality Ceylon sapphires.
