This wedding set features a natural untreated blue sapphire which is 'GEM' Quality. 'Gem' quality is a term used in the trade to describe a gemstone that is flawless in every area area of evaluation (cut, color, clarity). The sapphire has perfect hue/tone/saturation of what connoisseur's look in the finest quality 'blue'. The clarity is flawless at eye level, only under microscope can any internal characteristics be seen. The cut is perfect, there is zero window effect and proportions are optimal.
Regarding this sapphires origin:
This sapphire was originally set in an old estate ring weighing 2.32cts. The sapphire was unset from this old setting and sent to the AGTA lab in 2008.
The sapphire was certified as of Kashmir origin. Thereafter it was polished which reduced the weight to 2.28cts which the stone now weighs.
Recently the sapphire was sent to GIA for another origin certification; their opinion is that this sapphire may be from Madagascar.
The GIA hasn't offered any further information on how they came to this determination, from what we understand the EDXRF trace mineral analysis is not showing enough similarities to Kashmir regions. We do not believe this was a correct opinion based on our clear known history of this sapphire being from a very old antique ring from the late part of the 19th century.
This 4C's of evaluating a sapphire (carat, cut, color, clarity) could not be better in this gemstone, irrespective of origin opinions, this sapphire is a 'gem' quality sapphire.
