Name & Position: Michael, Director

Birthplace: Livingston, New Jersey

Current Residence: Yonkers, NY

Married: Yes with 3 kids

What you do at the NSC: I am the 3rd generation in the family business, and have taken on the responsibility of day-to-day operations from my father Seymour. I work a lot on buying our material from the mines and the cutting of our sapphires. I enjoy photography as well as working with customers on special custom projects. I also spend endless sleepless nights working on our software, website and efficiency challenges.

What you like about working at the NSC
: I enjoy working directly with the sapphires themselves; the ultra fine small stones that are perfectly cut are some of my favorites. I especially enjoy working on the cutting/lapidary work that goes into making our sapphires extraordinary gemstones.

Working with a customer who seems to understand and appreciate the real rarity of our sapphires is a great benefit of my job, making it seem more like a full time hobby. Having the privilege to work on creating custom jewelry pieces for special events in people's lives is also very rewarding.

Something nice or comments about some of the other workers here at the NSC: Having a work environment that is harmonious is one of the main goals that I try to achieve directing day-to-day activities. Top priority for me is having everyone work as a team to help each other and our customers. Being ethical, fair, and showing attention to detail is a vision that we all share working together. This is quite possibly the greatest gem in our inventory!

Hobbies: I am an avid naturalist, which I define as having a strong commitment to personal health, and respect for the world that I live in. I do this by being a vegan vegetarian, marathon runner and triathlete, as well as supporting a lifestyle and business that has as little negative impact in the world as possible. I try to promote my beliefs by living by example and not through dogma towards others.

Goals: Learn Spanish and Burmese. Spend more time with my family and winter mountaineering. Open a sapphire mine without losing a lot of money!
