| TREATMENTS |
Did you know that almost all sapphires are treated to improve their color, clarity and even size? It is extremely important to know if a sapphire you are considering to purchase has been treated. All treatments dramatically change the value of a gemstone.
The Natural Sapphire Company deals only with the finest quality sapphires. Almost all of our sapphires are untreated, meaning the sapphire has undergone no enhancement and is 100% natural.
Below are images of treated stones to give you a better idea of the dramatic shift in appearance after heating with flux-additives. Treatments can take very poor quality rough and transform it into a stone with a much better appearance. However, the quality and value of the stone is still very low.

| CLARITY |
While diamonds have an internationally established grading system, there is no standardized method to analyze clarity in sapphires and other gemstones. No natural gemstone is flawless. Diamond clarity is graded under 10x magnification. If viewed under 20x magnification a diamond with FL (Flawless) clarity would still have inclusions. Natural untreated sapphires inherently have more inclusions than diamonds at the standard 10x magnification. Therefore, we grade our sapphires at eye level, as almost no natural untreated sapphire would be considered flawless under 10x magnification.
At The Natural Sapphire Company we grade the clarity of our sapphires on a comparative basis. We have over 70 years of experience dealing exclusively with sapphires. We have borrowed some of the standard diamond grading terms and applied them to sapphires to better assist customers who may be familiar with diamond clarity terminology (example: VS1, SI2).
Below is the scale we use to grade clarity in our sapphires at eye level :

| ITEM STATUS |
|
We have two status classifications for our items: Available and On Hold.
“Available” means that the item is in our office and can be shipped immediately.
“On Hold” means that an item is not available for immediate delivery. On Hold can mean a few different things. The item may be out on preview with another client or a client is arranging payment to purchase the item and has reserved it. On Hold can also mean the item is at one of our trade shows, with a retail store, or out to another dealer on consignment. The item may not sell and could return to Available status within a short period of time. Our database is ‘real time’ so we show the active status for all of our inventory items 24/7.
If you see an item that you are interested in, you can still go through the steps of buying the item online to ensure that you will be the next person in line should the item become Available. If the item is not returned to us, we will contact you to let you know that your transaction has been voided.
If you wish to purchase an item we suggest you call us and ask for more details about its status.
